Every single books theme has been the same. It's the vampires fault for everything even when it's clearly not, but life doesn't get to go on until they turn detective agency and solve the case.
It's old and doesn't work anymore after nearly ten books.
Ethan and Merit are the stars. The stars have sidekicks.
Someone causes massive problems and in order to keep the hero's of the books front and center, they take it upon themselves to solve each and every crime, problem and everything in between.
I'm surprised this writer hasn't had them open "Cadogan's Supernatural Detective Agency" yet.
If the shoe fits.....
This book finally got to me. It was too easy and didn't write well with this story. An entire magical attack happens and it will be Ethan, Merit and company's fault, unless they play detective and solve this latest case, while everyone else sits on their arses and just whines and complains.
Like I said...getting really old.
There are better ways to keep your main characters at the forefront of your story.
A series shouldn't be shampoo, rinse and repeat.
Picking up where Biting Bad ended, Merit and Ethan find themselves hiding amongst the NAC Pack in hopes of thwarting the mayor's attempt at Ethan's public lynching. As usual, their visit isn't without drama. When the Pack's yearly celebration is interrupted by a magical attack, it's up to Merit, Ethan and the gang to figure out who's behind the attacks and why, before supernatural alliances begin to fall. But wait...there's more. The GP what's their revenge against Ethan to, but it seems the tide might be turning, which puts Merit in a spot of having to pay up on the favor she owes.
It's hard to believe it's only been a year (in CV time) since Merit's turning, but for anyone who's followed this series, we can see how much Merit has grown. I enjoy getting into her head and following her rationale, but she's less likely to jump into action without thinking. She's very aware of the repercussions her actions might have: for her, Ethan, the house and her family. Quite a change for Merit, but one that I think will serve her well as we move into what will be an very interesting chapter for Ethan and Merit.
Ethan and Merit. They just keep getting better. And it's hard not to love Ethan, especially since his return. He's not afraid to let Merit know his feelings. He may wear a mask around everyone else, but he turned a corner with Merit and he's not afraid to love her. He may not like some of her choices (i.e., the Red Guard) and he may not like some of the situations she gets into, but he's always there to support her. He may go all alpha on someone if he needs to, but he has her back.
I can't wait to see what will happens next. It should be interesting, with the GP and the challenge, but I also can't wait to see exactly what happens with Gabriel's prediction.
Merit's growth in this series is outstanding to me! Truly, to have seen her grow from the very beginning and to see who she is now, it's incredible! She's gone through so much already and when it's said that is has only been ten months I can hardly believe it, it feels longer. Merit's definitely one of my best book friends!
In Wild Things, we deal with the heat from last time around with Ethan being charged of murder, when we all know it was self defense. He's released and he and Merit go away for awhile, for their own protection and that of the House. But the mayor isn't so easily foiled, this b with an itch will stop at nothing until she eradicates all vampires from Chicago. And since her primary target, Ethan, is gone, she'll move onto the other Houses.
While away, Merit and Ethan are invited to a celebration with the Pack hosted by their friend Gabriel, but when it ends in chaos and kidnappings, things take a turn for the worse. Now Ethan and Merit must do all that they can to find the missing supernaturals, or else another group who has a member missing will incite war on the shifters and vampires.
The pacing in this one was perfect! It has a nice buildup to the upcoming problem, while still carrying over the problems and issues from last time. Lakshmi, who helped Merit and the House out in the past, has come to collect on her favor and she wants Ethan to take over the GP which is basically going to set us on a whole new course of action for the series, if Ethan choose to take it. It's up to Merit to give him the details. But it has Merit wondering, if Ethan were to do this, then what becomes of the prophecy Gabriel told her? Needless to say that in this one, Merit has a lot on her plate.
The romance in this was pretty much perfect. You would think there was no time for romance with all the chaos going about, but Chloe manages to give Ethan and Merit some alone time and oh wow! Now, I'm not one for a lot of romance in my books, but Chloe gives us the perfect amount in it. We have random sweet moments between the couple, and then there's the big, epic moment that totally blows those out of the water. It's quite perfect for the Urban Fantasy reader!
Wild Things ends spectacularly as it wraps up its current case and sets us on the path for Blood Games and considering all we learn in this one, it's safe to say that Blood Games will be even more thrilling and epic then those before it! This is a series that continues to get better and better with each book and I am pretty glad that there's no end in sight yet as I do not want to say goodbye to these characters yet! I cannot wait to see what else Chloe has in store for them!
Chicagoland Vampires is the absolute perfect read for fans of vampires and the Urban Fantasy world! Especially for those readers who are only just now discovering it! It's a whirlwind of a ride and I urge everyone to give it a try! You will not be disappointed!
