Patricia Gaffney began her writing career with the publication of Sweet Treason, a historical romance set in revolutionary Scotland. Eleven romance novels later, she tried something different--The Saving Graces, a story of women's friendships, that ended up spending 17 weeks on the New York Times Bestsellers List.

Circle of Three, Flight Lessons, and The Goodbye Summer followed, all bestsellers that established Gaffney as a premier mainstream fiction writer.

Her new book is Mad Dash, the story of a happy marriage in trouble. It's due out in Spring 2008.

Gaffney, who lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, is currently at work on a novel about a man who changes his life when he finds out he's dying--then finds out he isn't. Working title: On Second Thought.

The premise behind this book intrigued me, and I was hoping it would be good. Mrs. Gaffney did not disappoint! There were typos in the book, but I’m not going to rate this based on those because the storyline, and her style of writing deserve 5 stars. I loved the characters in the story, Michael and Sydney especially. I didn’t care for the dark tour of the city that the elder brother took Michael on. It left me feeling dirty although that was the point of it to help us see it through Michael’s eyes. The author did a brilliant job conveying how someone who had grown up in the wilderness alone with the animals might experience an introduction into society. The romance between Michael and Sydney was perfect. There was enough romance to be satisfying without distracting from the actual story. I’ll definitely be reading more of her books!

I was skeptical about this book, but intrigued and amused by the premise. I guess I was expecting a bodice-ripper with a chest-beating alpha caveman of a hero, but I couldn't have been more wrong! This is quite a sweet, slow-burning romance. Almost too slow, but I found it appropriate for this particular plot and its lead characters. Our heroine Sydney is relatable and good-hearted, and I liked that she was mostly a proper lady for the period, not the cliché rebellious, hair-tossing, feisty hoyden. Michael is one of the most engaging heroes I've read in a while - he's contemplative and principled, intense but sensitive, innocent but masculine, and passionate without being aggressive.

I will say that while I'm glad he wasn't grunting and trying to drag Sydney off by her hair, I would've enjoyed a little more "wildness" from him after he's first discovered. He reverts very quickly to being "civilized" in both his manner, speech, and dress, which is not only less interesting but I found hard to believe for a man who's been lost in the wilderness since he was six.

I also thought the ending was a bit too perfect with the miraculous deus ex machina and everything tied up with a pretty bow. I'm all about my happily ever afters, but it felt a bit trite and unoriginal.

I did enjoy all the secondary characters. They all had depth and were used just the right amount. I usually hate child characters, finding them either saccharine or annoyingly precocious, but Sam is darling.

I love Patricia Gaffney and this book was hard to put down as usual. I have given it to a friend to read and she feels the same way. We both enjoyed it.

Maybe if I'd been familiar with this author I'd have been prepared for this too-good-to-be-true treatment of the story I'd hoped to be getting.

What a touching story. Fantastic. The premise was a bit out there and I didn't think it would be believable, but I found it to be executed well. While the story was reminiscent of stories like Tarzan, I found it completely unique in the Romance genre. The writing had me glued to the pages time and again.

I absolutely loved Michael. He wasn't the usual alpha male we see in romances. And it felt so refreshing to read. He was sweet, funny, thoughtful, selfless and he didn't even understand the concept of lying. I enjoyed seeing him being introduced to new things and his excitement of them, like at the World Fair.

I wanted to cry for him when Sydney's father was doing the experiments on him. One of my favorite parts was when he catches a fish and decorates it to give it to Sydney. I wanted to laugh and cry.

Sydney was great too and the rest of the supporting cast were wonderful to the story. Especially her little brother Sam, I just loved his relationship with Michael.

I wanted more. I wanted to read more of Michael's and Sydney's story. I couldn't get enough and was so sad when it was over.

This is an incredible book that I would recommend to everyone.
