As a longtime fan of THE WILDERNESS series, I was waiting for THE GIFT, WILDERNESS 67, with great anticipation. It was well worth the wait!!
THE WILDERNESS series is a collection of books based upon the non-fictional journal entries of a mountain man in the 1800s when the wilderness was wild and untamed. The only laws that applied were those of survival and man was free to roam unchartered lands of our country. He lived using his wit, his weapons and a fierce determination.
Nate King has come a long way from the greenhorn who came out west at the invitation of his uncle to find `treasures' beyond belief. He has become an experienced mountain man with a Shoshone wife, Winona, their two children, Zachary and Evelyn. Zachary is now married and his wife Louisa is with child. Evelyn is a spirited sixteen year old full of passion and adventure. Zach has been known to be hotheaded and can be violent.
This story is focused on four intruders, the most hideous in nature. No, not the grizzly, but men, despicable men without a single moral fiber in their bodies. Nate King and his family are on a collision course with these villains. They aren't the only ones. A widow is on her dream trip to see the mountains being led by a scout. This was a spine tingling story!
I've been spoiled. Reading stories written by David Robbins are always a treat. He weaved an intricate plot into an explosion of violence, adventure and courage.
Each chapter ends leaving you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what is going to happen next! What a way to spend my day getting to look through the eyes of my favorite author spinning a yarn that always leaves me wanting to read the next book! I felt like I was observing first hand.
David Robbins is an exceptional storyteller and his stories are always a gift to read!
Can't wait for the next entry into the series.
When asking him about the "quality", he said, " this book falls right in line with ALL the other books>" !
He was pleased, as usual, with the Series. !
