I was approached by the author to promote this debut. After reading the blurb I knew it would be something I would enjoy, and enjoy it I did.
I love slow burn romances. I enjoyed how both Raine and Mac became good friends, I loved their banter, and their closeness. I enjoyed reading the sizzle between them when they were both denying their own feelings for each other. And I loved reading the sexy times when they finally admitted those feelings. The author really made this work!!
I felt the book was written well and the balance was just right between friendship and relationship.
I loved the additional characters and the humour threaded throughout. I think my favourite laugh out loud moment was this....
“Seriously?” Tate stared at him. “What are you, twelve?” “Inches,” he muttered.
I snickered like a 12 year old at that!!!
Towards the end I was soooooo mad at Mac when he became a number one douche!!!! I was cursing at my kindle. Also towards the end I was worried that, as its the first in a series, this was going to be a cliffhanger ending, but it wasn't and I didn't feel the ending was rushed, although things were cut a little fine for my nerves!!!!!
My only critique would be that sometimes, the characters dialogue was a little long, and I found myself losing track of who was speaking and having to re read. But I read late at night, so that could be the reason too!!!
I recommend this debut to anyone who loves slow burn, contemporary romances. And I'm looking forward to reading the next instalment from this author, as I'm intrigued to learn more about other characters, such as Laney, Tate, Adam and the mysterious Miller!!! Hopefully I'll get some answers the more this series develops.
I received an arc for my honest review.
Overall, the book is a great read that highlights friendships and relationships that are real world with complex ins and outs. The book explores the sad, real life grit that soldiers deal with when coming back from war as well as the lighthearted awkwardness that many young women encounter in the dating world. The ability to delve from one end of the emotional spectrum to the other is quite an ability on behalf of the author. No aspect of the story seems too far fetched or unbelievable like many other books in this genre.
Great job to RC Boldt! I really look forward to reading the next book in the Teach Me series.
Liked I am reading about middle school students instead of a bunch oh teachers. Haha!
Wow, what another great, new author for me! RC has such a great writing style that you cant help but fall instantly in love with her characters.
Right off the bat, we are caught in a tough situation. Sorrow, heartbreak and loss all happen within the first 5 pages and you cant help buy cry for Mac. Fast forward 2 years and we meet Raine in her own version of a comical hell if there ever was one. Oh, the joys of blind dating. But that is not where Mac and Raine come together. When the meet for the first time, Mac has already been warned to not treat Raine as he does all his other conquests, but that doesn’t stop the connection that they both feel. As they begin to spend time together at work teaching and going to the karaoke bar with their fellow friends and co-workers, they begin to forge a friendship that will last the spans of time. Only, the friendship is not the only thing that they want, they also want each other, if only temporary. But how long can temporary last? When an old friend comes to visit Raine, that question will be answered and could change the course of these two peoples lives forever.
RC, I cant wait to read more from you with the Teach Me series!
