Product description

Color:white

The Wildlife World solitary beehive is an interactive solitary Mason/Orchard bee and insect habitat constructed from durable FSC certified timber with individual cell trays that can be opened for inspection and/or cleaning. This unique solitary beehive is designed specifically to attract non-swarming bees like the Red Mason Bee, Leafcutter Bee and other solitary bees. These friendly bees are gregarious and safe around children and pets. The bees are naturally attracted to holes in wood and the Wildlife World solitary beehive provides a habitat that has become harder to find in modern gardens. Fascinating and great for education, the beehive is designed not only as a habitat, but to be easily dismantled to see the formation of small cells where the eggs are laid, or indeed where predators have been active. Always a friend to the gardener, attracting solitary bees to the garden is not only safe, but increases the yield of flowers, fruit and vegetables.

5.0 out of 5 stars So great, I bought a second one - and it's already being used
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 3, 2018
Here is a photo of the two hives in situ. The second one has only been up 2-3 weeks and is already being filled. The first one is almost full. The activity is amazing. I'd love to buy a third, but that would begin to get too expensive. However, if you want to be enthralled, buy this hive and put it in a sunny spot and just wait... it'll soon be attracting mason bees and other solitary bees. We will have 48 larvae homes filled by the end of July! This is a great little product and the bees love it. It will also ensure lots of pollinators for your garden next year. Once filled and plugged, the hive stays the way it is until Spring. The male bees come out first (and wait for the females), as their larvae was laid near the entrance. The larvae of the female bees are at the back of each 'home' and emerge a little later. The male and females mate and then the whole process starts again.

Excellent product that the bees love. Last year the bee hotel provided cocoons as seen in the picture. I harvested them and kept in fridge over winter and have today brought them outside to hatch. I will be buying another as these hatchlings will need more accommodation this summer. They return to the spot where they hatch. Harvesting them removes them from insect preditores.

5.0 out of 5 stars The bees like this!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 29, 2018
I've included some photos showing a visit from a bee laying her eggs. Lucky timing! As you can see there are some other holes that had already been visited and used for egg laying by other bees. By the end of the summer we had 7 holes used and sealed by the bees with leaves. I'm over wintering the hive in the garage and have a reminder on the back of the front door to bring outside again in late Feb! Then fingers crossed those precious tunnels should produce some new bees. Really pleased with the product, it's well made and the bees like it. We had another solitary bee hive right next to this one - the type that is a sawn log with chanelled out bamboo canes and we didn't get a single taker. So on behalf of the bees I would recommend this one.
