With a beautiful introduction by Ken Dodd it’s such a lovely book. I couldn’t put it down. Such a gem.
A fine tribute to one of the best comics we have ever produced and it's great his films are still shown so the younger generation can appreciate a true legend
Anyhow, this is meant to be a review of this book and Graham Rinaldi has done an excellent job here at trying to find out what made Will Hay tick. Yes, there are times when the narrative is long winded and you get the sense that the author was afraid to leave anything out regarding his obvious devoted research. This becomes apparant when he details phone numbers, car registration plates and anecdotes that have nothing to do with the subject such as location stories and near miss stunts. But what lifts this fine book above most other biographies is the obvious and endearing respect the author has about his subject. Graham Rinaldi really has done a grand job here and I particularly liked the many quotes he picked from Will Hays' films and stage appearances. Many of them made me chuckle.
I had no idea just what a talented man Will Hay was. Excellent comedy actor, renowned astronomer, engineer, writer and pilot. A gifted man and a book that is worthy of his many gifts. Recommended without question.
