I will be honest, I was a bit worried about how much I would enjoy this book because it is shorter than the other books in the series, but I was completely caught off guard with how in depth Ms. Morris went with the story. I didn’t feel as though there were any details lacking in it, the characters were written very well and just the overall plot was very well done. I did like how we were able to go back in time and see what the Colony was like before everyone started to find their loves.
One thing that I did enjoy the most about this book was that you could really FEEL the love that William and Jackie had. Even when they had first met, you could tell the connection that they had, and it was one that was so detailed you couldn’t help but root for them throughout the book.
I completely LOVED this book and even though it’s the 3.5 book of the series, I think that if you haven’t read this series yet, you should really give this one a chance!

This is a quick trip into the past of two COLONY members, William and Jackie. It starts in present-day with Alex helping Jackie and William make costumes for a school production. During their time together, Alex asks how the two of them got together. Jackie smiles and begins the tale ... Through a bumpy start and a lot of misunderstandings, William and Jackie hit it off and become a couple. It helped that Jackie's life was put in danger and William could play hero to the damsel in distress.
While this novella was an enjoyable trip down memory lane, there are a couple things I'd like to point out. First, the novella is called William's Tale but Jackie's telling the story but the story's a split first-person where we know what both William and Jackie are thinking. It's just a little odd. I probably would've given the story a different title, but kept the writing style the same.
The second thing I'd like to mention ... This is my fourth story that I've read of Ms. Morris'. I would just like to caution her on publishing her works in a hurry. Throughout all four stories, I've noticed errors that could have been taken care of with some editing (not spellcheck). They are minimal but they're enough to throw a reader off track when they're in a reading groove. Overall, though, if you're into paranormal romances with a focus on vampires then the Colony series would be right up your alley.

Can't wait for the next book in this exciting series!!! I recommend this series to all those who love hot sexy hunks and strong females leads.....the love of vampires is just an extra special plus to reading this amazing new series!!
Now, as a black author and woman, I have to say I was somewhat concerned that I would find the portrayal of the characters in the story somewhat lacking. NOPE. I was overjoyed. Miss Morris must have a lot of black friends or we’re not as difficult to write realistically (without stereotypes) as I thought we were! Great to see amazing black people without racial stereotypes, fantastic to see racial issues brought to light in a novel, and I was happy with the entire novel overall. It is a worthwhile read, and one I planned to buy a copy of myself before I saw this review opportunity come up.
As for the characters, I feel I should touch on them briefly. You’ll see the same familiar faces, Sterling as a “younger” vampire, Raymond, Ben, and others. The President is still a jerk, William is longing for love (but has searched for it in all the wrong places thus far) and Jackie is a substitute school teacher with a hope for bringing equal education to intercity kids. So as not to spoil it, as it’s only a short tale, I want to let you know that I love her stubborn attitude and William’s charm. They fit together quite right.
