Expect authors who write crime novels to do basic research on the law. This one apparently does not. Location 2658 and 2660 police get the landlord to open tenants rooms without a warrant, then ask the landlord if he has keys to the tenants vehicles to again search without a warrant.
Location 4579 "...she didn't pull out any of the stops" Saying comes from pulling out the stops on an organ - pulling out the stops intensifies the sound. Pulling out all the stops means going all the way, holding nothing back so this should have said "...she pulled out all the stops."
Her niece comes home to her dead parents and she has fled because she is scared. They are wondering if her ex boyfriend and his buddy, or her father who has since remarried did it. There are other suspects too.
Her niece was told by her mother if anything happens to go the Pescoli for help. But Pescoli is unsure whether or not her niece has anything to do with the murder. And in the process of going to Pescoli’s house, she finds herself in all kinds of trouble. Eventually everything comes to a head as moer crimes and criminals are on the way to Pescoli’s town. She is taking a backseat as much as she can but being a cop is who she is. You will enjoy this read.
