Product description

Rated as the most powerful for its category in Tennis Magazine's 1999 Spring Gear Guide, the Hyper Hammer 5.3 quickly became Wilson's most popular Hyper Carbon model. Its ideal blend of power, control and maneuverability became evident on the pro tour, as former player Lindsay Davenport and Todd Martin showcased the numerous benefits of Wilson's newest material technology. At 27.5 inches, this racket provides additional leverage and more reach than a standard length racket, without impeding reaction to balls hit close to the body.

5.0 out of 5 stars Need a good beginner to intermediate racket with good feel and power?
By Hoppaguy on May 22, 2019
The Good:
-Good feel
-Stiff frame
-Nice power
-Good value
-Comfortable grip
-Well constructed
-Pre strung

The Bad:
-None

The Bottom Line:
I just went out and hit balls with this racket and it’s a really good racket for beginner to intermediate players and is a good value. The racket has good feel and power for this price range. The frame is stiff and doesn’t contort much when hitting balls. The grip is comfortable and cushioned. Overall I would recommend this racket to beginner to intermediate players.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Racket for Beginners but the Handle Grip is a Little Flimsy
By Dirk Diggler on August 29, 2019
I bought two of these rackets for me and my girlfriend to start playing tennis as beginners. They're very lightweight and they have a slightly bigger racket surface area than other "standard" rackets which makes it easier to hit the ball. It's not much bigger than the rackets you see other people using on the tennis courts we play at so we didn't stand out as beginners from our rackets alone...(I think our level of play is what gave us away). Anyway, they also fit very nicely in my JanSport backpack which make them very easy to carry around if you didn't already have or want to buy a tennis racket-specific carrying bag. My only complaint is that the handle grips began to deteriorate after only a few outings to the tennis courts (see attached pictures). It's not terrible but I don't see the handle grips on these rackets withstanding consistent use. I've been told that you can buy grip tape separately to wrap around the racket's handle to fix the problem which we may do if the condition continues to worsen.

Overall, I definitely recommend these rackets for beginner players. Just know that the racket may break down on you after a short period of time and that you may need to buy grip tape separately as a fix. Who know's though? By the time the handle grip tears apart you may already be ready to move on to the Roger Federer-branded pro tennis racket!

Happy playing!
