The Blade series is reborn with Countervail Technology in an effort to reduce the amount of shock that players receive when striking the ball and mitigate fatigue. Similar to its predecessor (Blade 98 (16x19)) this racquet is an all-around performer. Slightly more forgiving than the 18x20 because of a more open string pattern, power and control are perfectly blended. Weighing just over 11 ounces strung, the Blade 98 16x19 feels very solid as you come through the ball and absorbs heavy shots at net with ease. On serve the mass in the racquet head is most notable by delivering a crisp and powerful feel that will certainly impress. The Blade 98 16x19 Countervail is a great update to the best selling blade series and demonstrates a commitment by Wilson to improving racquets year after year.

The thing that is so unique about this racquet is that it affords you the opportunity to play with an authentically modern racquet in terms of balance, power, and stiffness, but, with the implementation of Countervail, also provides a one-of-a-kind dampening system that arrests vibration and pain before it ever reaches your wrist or elbow.
Having played with the Head Microgel OS for years (upon the recommendation of several tennis elbow friendly racquet experts), I have fully transferred over to the Wilson Blade 98 16x19. The thing I like most about it is how much plow-through and drive you can generate with this racquet despite the fact that its weight is well below that of the Wilson RF 97 Federer Autograph.
I am a baseline player who plays with heavy topspin. My string of choice for this racquet is the Ashaway Monogut ZX Pro. The flexibility of the strings provides an even more arm-friendly response along with felt-shredding spin.
One note on that last point. I'm not overstating the spin this racquet can generate with the right strings. My teammates noticed an IMMEDIATE difference when I switched from multifilament strings to the Monogut ZX Pro. They will literally shred the felt right off of the ball within 1 set. I've used Penn Championships, ProPenns, and Penn ATP, but they will all be as bald as a bowling ball by the end of a set when using this racquet combined with the Monogut ZX Pro strings.
That setup easily adds SEVERAL hundred RPMs to your shots. My kick serves now bounce up to head-level and my side-spin slice shots routinely have my opponents tripping over their feet.
