Candy simply would not melt. I followed advice to add some oil to thin and it completely seized up and hardened. Thought I'd have to throw the whole bowl away too! One of those annoying items where you can't return it because you've used it up (though it's total garbage). Money down the drain. I did see the mixed reviews and took a chance because I needed it for my daughter's birthday party. Ended up making last minute run to the store to buy premade icing that I made purple with food coloring--should have done that in the beginning!

I used the red Melts to make Pokeballs for my son's birthday. I've never had luck with melts before and I realized I was using them in a chocolate melter and that was the problem. Do not use a chocolate melter as these are not chocolate! Read the directions and melt them in the microwave and you will have no problem. The color came out great and they tasted just fine. Hardened quickly and was easy to pop out of silicon molds.

These are ok if you need a last minute melt that you can’t find in a local store. (Red is always sold out in my local stores around any holiday!). However, this turns out a muted vintage brick red rather than a bright fire engine red. Also, they have a slight wax taste to them.
If you can find a better brand I would grab those but these will work if you procrastinate like I do lol Just keep in mind this is not a bright red ;)

You have to use candy melts for any coating that you will have put in room temperature. You especially need it if you do not know how to temper chocolate. I used this to decorate some cake pops but I had to thin it out with oil to really get it to coat and not be chunky. I have this problem with their formula and I don't like it- I'd prefer for it to be thinner when melted. When I add the oil it solidifies perfectly still it is just much easier to work with. I had a lot of problems with it weighing the cakepop down and getting lumpy and cracking until I added the oil. As a tip for cake pop decorating, do mix it with a neutral light colored oil until you get a good consitency, use a spoon to poor over some of the candy and tap it to remove the excess while spinning. PLEASE consider doing this as a wasted a lot of time, cake pops, and worry while trying to do it directly from melting. Otherwise it is still an amazing unique product, I just wish I did not have to modify it at all.

These seem to be the best brand of candy melts easily obtainable. I use them when make cake pops. They taste good and look cute--if you can get it to work properly. The candy is not nearly as runny as you would really want (for the purposes of cake pops). I usually lose a few cake pops when the melted product gets too thick and heavy and/or is no longer deep enough. (The cake falls off the lollipop stick into the melt.)
Make sure you run the microwave on half power the whole time you are melting these. There is supposedly another product you can buy to make the candy thinner and runnier so that dipping is easier, but I've never tried it. I can usually get just under 20 cake pops from one bag of melts.

If you’re going to make chocolate candies or coat your truffles in chocolate, the chocolate has to be smooth! I melted these in a double boiler, added a boatload of shortening, and the texture still wasn’t smooth. It had air bubbles, and it even had a strange, crunchy taste I can’t account for. The chocolate does not taste good by itself, and if you coat truffles with it, they won’t look smooth. Now, I have bought Wilton candy melts from Walmart in the past, and they worked well and tasted great. These must be different. I even suspect that they’re not really Wilton brand because I’ve never encountered a Wilton product that was that bad.

Good product. Needs better info on coloring with food color. Absolutely NEEDS oil-based food color which is not easy to find. If you use the normal water-based, even a couple drops, the whole bowlful seizes up and must be trashed.

Rubbish product.

This is a terrible product. Firstly this is not red. It's a coral/salmon pink colour, so if you're hoping for true red you're going to be disappointed. Also it doesn't melt to any kind of usable consistency. I followed the instructions to the letter, TWICE, and each time and up with an awfully thick seized paste that couldn't be used. Complete and utter waste of money.

Worst candy melts
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 14, 2020Color: WhiteVerified Purchase
The worst candy melts ever
I place them in a heat proof dish and warmed up over boiling water which is usually the best and safest way of heating candy melts but they wouldn’t melt. They became really thick (stuff)
I checked the reviews and someone said they added veg oil so I did the same which seemed to work
I then hoped for the best and started to drip my mini cake
Luckily I stopped at the 1st one because the chocolate clumped together some parts were watery some were really thick
My cake looked like off milk was swimming in top
I use Wilton’s for many things but I will never use their candy melts again.
I gave the flavour 3 stars because it actually tasted nice but these melts will ruin your cake
I risked it after reading the reviews but please Don’t

Didn’t melt

I don’t know if they were old or stored incorrectly, but I ordered them so I could pipe lines on to truffles. I followed the microwave instructions to the letter and it had the consistency of polyfilla. Then I tried the over simmering water method with the exact same result. Tasted fine. Not sure what to do with them.

Best chocolate to use for cake pops
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 6, 2017Color: WhiteVerified Purchase
I have purchased Candy Melts a few times now for cake pop making. The chocolate is easy to melt and use.
I do ensue that I add chocolate between the stick and the cake to secure before covering the full cake pop.
One bag will cover up to 10 cake pops but it does depend on how much you add to each one. I also like to sprinkle cake decorations on top to give them a wow factor.
I prefer this product over supermarket brands
