This mold, along with the other Wilton silicone molds make decorating with fondant extremely easy. Cakes look extremely professional and attractive, garnering many accolades. I love that cakes look so professional when the decorating was so incredibly easy (using these molds, of course). Because the molds are made of flexible silicone, most of the pieces pop out easily with a simple poke to or twist of the mold.
With this Party mold, I struggled to get the candle flames out of the mold at first, but confectioners' sugar wound up being the secret to success with those pieces.
The directions state to use cornstarch to dust the molds before using them, but I have found that powdered sugar is actually more effective. I have also found that the fondant used in these molds needs to be fairly firm. When using homemade fondant or marshmallow fondant, I wind up adding an additional quarter cup of confectioners' sugar to the fondant in order to make it firm enough for use in the mold. When using Wilton rolled fondant, I add approximately three tablespoons of powdered sugar.
I highly recommend these molds to any amateur cake decorator. They are worth their weight in gold!
I can't find the picture of using it to make my grandmothers cake but it turned out extremely well....everyone thought it was store brought and cost a lot of money...no way!
TIP - Place in the freezer for a few seconds to harden, for really nice, crisp shapes. I didn't do this at first and got so frustrated, the shapes would fall apart and be so bendable. Popping them in the freezer helped save A LOT of time and made the shapes look extremely professional and perfect.
Would highly recommend! Can't wait to try out the other molds by Wilton!
Practice a little before committing to a whole wedding cake.
Its silicone, so it's very easy to wash, as the sugar doesn't leave much in the molds.
