Second knife had no issues whatsoever and appears to be from a totally different batch. Both first and second knife came in original packaging/sealed plastic. The action on the second knife is silky smooth. I was ready to order a star-head screwdriver for this knife thinking I was going to have to adjust it based on the first one-Nope! This thing is perfect right out of the box and if your a thumb flicker this will feel very natural. It doesn't fall open by any means and the point of the blade is recessed by almost 1/4" when closed. The first time I opened it I heard the familiar 'click' of the liner lock mechanism working, but wanted to make sure it worked with just hand operation. After closing the knife and opening it by hand (much easier with this one, or read as "little to no effort") I again heard that little 'click' of the mechanism engaging. It immediately became my daily knife and I would even be willing to give it five stars if not for a couple machine markings on the knife.
Four Stars? But you love the knife! I do. It's in my pocket right now. I know there are a lot of different buyers out there so to be fair I must say the knife edge is ever so slightly uneven and the there are four places on the knife where you can identify either a machine marking or separations that marginally detract from the aesthetics. I say aesthetics because there are no burs or anything else that will cause the knife to snag or anything, just slight marks you can see if your looking for them. For me, for the price, for the value, for the service I've already received I have no problems backing this knife up. If you are a true collector and want perfect or pristine then this knife is not for you. If you want good+ daily knife to throw in the box or have in your pocket (and yes the whole is perfect for a 550 cord-pull) then yes order away. If you do happen to get a bad one, return for replacement and mention the problems and hopefully you get a great one on your second receive.
The knife itself is solidly made. The screws and finish are clean and nothing is loose. I have smallish fingers but a wide palm and the general feel holding the knife even with the clip is comfortable. It doesn't jab my hand or anything. It actually feels pretty comfortable-like the clip itself was designed to snuggle right into my grip. It had some gunk on if out of the box, but no worries really. I just scraped it off with a toothpick. The movement on the blade when opening the kknife is a little stiff if you are trying to use those little protruding blade nubs. I have trouble opening it from there while maintaining a natural grip. It opens just fine with two fingers on the blade.
Great piece, and will update review if it craps out in the field.
Edit: The blade is stainless steel but it does pick up specks of rust from sweat occasionally. Fortunately since it's stainless steel instead of carbon steel this is really easy to remedy, all you have to do is put it blade down in a glass of regular white vinegar and let the blade soak for about five minutes, and use a sponge with a scouring pad to remove the rust spots in seconds without scratching the blade at all. Pretty low effort and almost every household already has these things in them already. This also works with any kitchen knives suffering from the same problem. Do not do this with carbon steel. I would still recommend this knife!
The knife also wasn't all that sharp out of the box, although that's not a hard problem to solve.
