About the Author
Bart Hopkin is a maker of musical instruments and a student of musical instruments of all sorts. Since 1985 he has been the director of Experimental Musical Instruments, an organization devoted to unusual musical instruments and innovative instrument making. He edited the Experimental Musical Instruments quarterly journal from 1985 to 1999. Since 1994, he has written several books on instruments and their construction, including the central resource, Musical Instrument Design, published by See Sharp Press. He has also produced CDs featuring the work of innovative instrument makers worldwide, including the highly successful Gravikords, Whirlies & Pyrophones from Ellipsis Arts publishers. In his work as an instrument maker, Bart has explored a great many different types of instruments, both familiar and unconventional -- experience which gave him an invaluable breadth and depth of understanding to draw from as he designed and built dozens of wind chimes in preparation for this book.
