WindowAlert - Leaf Medley
Protect birds from striking windows. 5 decal pack, each decal has a special coating that reflects ultraviolet sunlight. This ultraviolet light is invisible to humans, but birds see it as a brilliant glow much like a stoplight. To the human eye, the decals appear as frosted or etched glass. The Elm, Oak and Maple leaf decals measure approximately 4" across. The two Aspen decals measure 2" across. Designed to be placed on the outside of a window. Place the decals every 3'x3' section of glass. Reapply decals every 6-9 months. Static cling decals.
Leaf Medley Multi pack of 5 leaf decals. One Elm, Oak, Maple and 2 Aspen leaves included. Window Alert decals help prevent wild birds from accidently striking windows. Each decal has a special coating that reflects ultraviolet sunlight. This ultraviolet light is invisible to humans, but birds see it as a brilliant glow much like a stoplight.

So I got two packs of these. There are five in each pack. We have 6 regular-sized windows and the two patio slider doors. Each patio slider gets two leaves (you are supposed to put one leaf in each 3' x 3' square area) and each window gets one. Perfect amount of decals! Yay!
I waited till baby nap time and wandered outside into the sunlight I hadn't seen in 6 weeks. I think I was actually able to see UV light reflect off the decals, too, after being inside so long! (just kidding... I wasn't) It was only 40*F, which is 10* less than the suggested minimal application temperature. I applied them to the outside of the windows, using a damp washcloth to clean and wet the windows. I smoothed out the air bubbles. You can barely see the decals, and even when you do, they look like fancy glass etchings or something. I felt pretty good about myself; job well done!
No more birds have smacked the windows in the past few days. Things are looking up. Now I'm writing Amazon reviews to keep busy instead of counting bird corpses. Life is good. Highly recommend.
My mom was concerned that people would see the WindowAlert decals while walking down the street, but you have to stare at the windows and look for the decals to actually see anything (see the attached photos from inside and outside my house). If you look closely when the sun is out, you can see how the UV light gives the decals a very light purplish tint, but it is hardly noticeable to the human eye. They are very easy to apply, but make sure that when you apply them that you start from the middle and work your way to the edges to prevent air bubbles. A credit card was also helpful to also smooth out the bubbles.
I highly recommend these decals to anyone who wants to help stop birds from striking their windows and will definitely purchase more in the future!
The reason I'm writing is just to try and help the birds (I don't mean that to sound silly, we just got so sad when birds would slam into our window and hurt themselves). Anyway, what we realized was that the birds were only hitting one of our two large glass doors in the back. One of the windows has a sliding screen door in front of it, the other right next to it doesn't have a screen in front of it. The birds weren't hitting the large window that was a sliding screen. So we had a screen door installed in front of the the glass window that doesn't move.
It's been a year and we haven't had any birds hit either of our large glass windows. We think this is because they both now have a screen in front of them. It seems like the screen might interrupt enough of the reflection so that the birds don't mistake it for clear flying space. Just wanted to pass this along.
We have several large picture windows and live in an area with a lot of wildlife including birds. Prior to installing these decals we'd have bird strikes at least once a week during "high season". After placing them about nine months ago we've only had three. So we can say with some confidence that they work as intended.
They don't obscure the view too much from the inside, appearing as somewhat clear but "cloudy". Well worth the slight inconvenience. We got used to them quickly and don't notice them much at all.
Unfortunately, as mentioned, they do not hold up well to being removed and replaced for window cleaning. We've washed our windows with normal cleaners and a squeegee a couple of times now and the decals no longer fully stick to the windows and are much more visible as you can see by the pictures. One is actually pealing off now.
So overall they do what they say they will and that's important. We may buy a few more and try washing the windows without removing them to see how it goes.
The only downfall is that we have floor to ceiling windows on three of the walls and some are really high -my husband had to maneuver a ladder in the dirt, among the trees to place on the outside of the windows. AND, these only last a year. I just ordered my second set. So, get the ladder out again. I guess if it saves the birds, it is worth it.
