The rest of the book is an uplifting story of faith, family, and love. My only complaint is what I have for many self-published memoirs: the authors try to cram an entire lifetime into one book, which sometimes leads to a feeling of overwhelm in the reader, sometimes to the lack of detailed descriptions of events that might have added more richness to the narrative. Sarah could well turn this one book into a four- to six-book memoir series, she has experience so much in her approximate 40 years of life (at the time I write this review).
I was actually tempted to dock Sarah a star for doing more “telling” instead of “showing” in some places in the book, and for committing the “memoir sin” of overwhelm. But in the end, I decided an author with such a gift for turning prose into a work of art, and for helping her readers see God more clearly while inspiring joy, deserved five stars.
Recommended for any mother needing an uplifting read, especially homeschooling moms, and moms who have/want a lot of children and are having to fight against the society’s bad attitude toward large families.
I appreciate seeing God's Hand moving so clearly thruout Sarah's story. He has protected and guided her, and also been strong in her husband's life. While not a treatise on this subject, the theme shines thru the book. When we want what Jesus wants, He brings us along electrifying paths. Sometimes Sarah's life is hard, exhausting, even chaotic, I'm sure. Yet she chooses joy and brings this to her children. Her husband guides them all as he walks faithfully in the Lord, with joy also. The children thrive no matter what country they are in or if they are in town or countryside.
This story, of course, could not be possible without the prior Christian upbringing of both the mother and father in this remarkable family. This testifies even more as to what can be when you parent your children in the Lord as you sell out totally to Jesus, and remain strong in your faith thruout your own life. Sarah's parents may not always know what trouble Sarah is in across the sea, but I can bet they are consistently on their knees for her and one of the reasons for the hedge around her in her early ministries. Even now, the grandchildren are obviously prayed for daily too...this is my conclusion based on the wonderful experiences told in this testimony to Christ's goodness in this book.
This is not everyone's calling but this can be everyone's testimony; a fulfilled life in Jesus thru obedience.
Sarah was a pastor's kid that never saw herself as worthy, became a child model and then worked in missions etc. Her pre-married section of life is nearly half the book. From then on we see Josh and Sarah becoming parents multiple times over, staying in love and eventually taking their entire family on the mission field. Think they have the perfect family and life? Sometimes it may come across that way but truly it is just Sarah sharing how they have been so blessed by putting the Lord first in their lives. We then read of the morning when they, as parents, wake up to the children fighting! Ever had that happen in your house? What did they do? They made their children go back to bed whilst they cleaned up and then the day started afresh!
This is a down-to-earth book that is well-written and an easy but inspirational read about an adventurous Christian family that are not perfect but strive to live for the Lord each and every day of their lives. Show them that it is worth staying pure for the man God has for them. See how Josh and Sarah dealt with the passion they felt before their marriage. LOVED this story/testimony!
