The TTEP115 windshield and dashboard car mount is ideal for use with the TomTom START 40, 45, 55, and XL; XL and XXL; and ONE 125, ONE 130, and ONE 140 models. The adapter plate included with the holder accommodates any of the above TomTom models. It includes Arkon’s Travelmount deluxe mini suction car mount, an adapter plate that converts the mount from a Dual-T to the circular TomTom EasyPort mount pattern, and a 3M adhesive dash mounting disk. The arm of the suction mount adjusts vertically and provides 360° rotation, giving you the ultimate flexibility in viewing the TomTom device from any angle. For cold weather climates, Arkon suggests the sticky suction TTEP179, also available from Amazon.

When it arrived I first ascertained that it would clip to my GPS, which it did with no problems, a nice firm grip too. Not as firm perhaps as the TomTom version but that mount keeps falling off my windshield so all in all, good.
The mount has a swing arm that can be positioned to account for windshield slope and dashboard proximity etc then locked with a knob, and which terminates in a ball-jointed platform into which you snap-fit the ring-adapter for the GPS itself. The ball joint can be tightened or loosened by means of a knob on the back of the platform. This sounds more complex than it actually is.
I used the included alcohol wipe to clean the windshield, dried the windshield with a clean paper towel and stuck the mount to it by pressing it hard against the windshield and operating the lever. That was last night, and the mount is still stuck like a limpet this morning.
I went for a drive using the GPS and it was just about perfect. No vibration, no falling into the footwell after a minute or so.
If it stops being great I'll come back and say so, but as of today this mount is well worth the cost in my opinion.
[EDIT 10/21/15] I just ordered one for my kid, who uses a Garmin GPS, and I already got one for my wife who uses a Tom Tom. These mounts are truly the best way to mount the GPS where it can be seen without taking eyes off the road longer than one would for, say, a mirror or speedo check. I stuck mine on the windshield of my car the day I bought it and it is still hanging tight today. Six stars good.[/EDIT]
[EDIT 9/22/16] The mount finally let go during the winter of '16 during a record cold spell. I waited a couple of days, cleaned the windshield again and re-attached the mount. It is still firmly stuck today and has been in regular load-bearing use throughout. Six stars? More like seven.[/EDIT]
I bought this specifically for a trip while using a rental car. The rental car companies charge an insane amount if you want to use their GPS service. I brought my handy TomTom GPS and fastened it to this mount on the windshield. It held the TomTom firmly for my entire trip. It easily released when it was time to return the rental car.
* The GPS fits securely in this mount
* Suction is strong and holds the mount and GPS firmly.
* It can be adjusted to any viewing angle.
* Once mount is properly tightened using the adjustments, the GPS has minimal vibration and handles bumps well.
* Couldn't find any
I was not anxious to relive any part of this experience and after reading the reviews of the knock-offs I knew I was in for more of the same. One of those reviews mentioned the Arkon and after reading it's reviews I was convinced to give it a try. After almost a month of use it has not failed once and due to its multiple articulation points it offers a few more mounting options than the original.
It cost more than the knock-offs but since it actually works it is worth the expense. One nitpick: the coupling ring that connects with the back of the TomTom feels loose but it seems to be securely connected and it doesn't appear to be a problem.
I wanted a more “normal” windshield mount - a suction cup with a lever instead of a twist ring, and that led me to this particular mount. The design is simple - press the suction cup against the windshield and flip the lever to make the cup stick to the window. In operation this is an easy-to-use mount and it seems to hold the navigator in place without too much trouble. As expected it does not hold well when it the windshield is cold, which is an issue with every suction-based mount I have ever used - including the EasyPort.
The ring in which the TomTom attaches to the mount holds the TomTom in place well enough but I have observed that it does not hold the navigator tightly. That is, the TomTom has a tendency to turn a little in the ring. So far this has not been an issue and the TomTom has not fallen out of the ring so this really does not bother me.
The mount is adjustable and provides for a couple of places where the position can be tweaked for maximum visibility. There should be no issue with getting the position of the GPS just right so it can be seen but not in the way.
So far I am pleased with this mount and am happy to recommend it. It’s a lot easier to use than the EasyPort mount that comes with the TomTom and it’s adjustable enough to make visibility a non-issue, even while in motion. If you have a TomTom and you don’t like the EasyPort mount, this mounting system is a big improvement.
