After trying the other methods for preserving wine, I can say this one works the best. In order of effectiveness, I'd rank them as 3- pump, 2-nitrogen gas, and 1-wine shield. We used to use the pump, then switched to gas. With gas, we'd get 2 or more days out of a bottle depending on the wine. Whites can go a lot longer, but some reds would taste a little different after a day with gas. But with the wine shield, I have gone 4 days or so with very little change in red wines. We refrigerate them after opening and warm them up when ready to drink. The only issue I've found with the wine shield is it doesn't fit as well in some gewurztraminer bottles which are narrower, but gawurz keeps pretty well anyway, so we just use gas for those. We are regular wine drinkers, and polishing off one bottle a night between 2 people leaves me a little fuzzy the next day, and can get pricey. We usually drink a half bottle with dinner, and pair our wines, so we may have 3 open bottles at a time. This has been a great solution, and after 2 10 packs I am sold. I just went for the 130 pack.

These shields are great for saving wine a few days, as if just opened. I'm on my second box of fifty.

The picture is a bit misleading. When I opened the package on arrival, I found fifty loose shields inside, and the insertion tool. There is no separate box for storing the shields. No matter, I used the box from my first purchase for storage.

My wife and I rarely drink a bottle of wine in one "sitting". Usually it's more a matter of several days, during which time the wine invariably loses its flavor. This product seems to prevent that from happening. I have a bottle of red table wine which has been opened for 3 days. With the shield in the bottle, it appears pretty close in taste to how it was when the bottle was opened (of course the way to really test this would be to open another bottle now and compare the two directly- which I haven't done). An added bonus- I've found that with a long pair of tweezers, the shield can be easily removed from the empty bottle, washed with dish detergent and water, and reused many times!

We generally buy wines in the $12-16 range and a bottle lasts about three days. No matter how good the wine is the first day, by the second day it has a bitter edge to it. I purchased a Vacu Vin vacuum pump a while back, which I thought would fix this issue, but really, it didn't help much at all.

Since I want to enjoy my wine over a few days, I really wanted to find a solution that would keep it tasting good after the first day, and decided to try the wine shield - and it works amazingly well! I could absolutely tell the difference - wines that on the second day had a bitter edge to them now tasted the same as they did when the bottle was opened. It's a bit pricey at anywhere from 35 - 60 cents per bottle (depending on the quantity you purchase) but it's totally worth it to have a solution that actually WORKS.

I would have gone 5 stars but you will have an occasional cover that will not open in the bottle. I have only had one in about 30 bottles. They do keep wine fresh and that is the point of these correct?

I work in the wholesale wine business and have to show wine samples to customers usually over a period of 3-4 days. The wine shield preserves the wine perfectly, and much better than the argon/nitrogen gas I used previously and at a better price. I have turned on other wine reps to them and there experience has been the same.
Superior product. I have actually had wine stay fresh at home for a week.

I can compare this only to the Vacuvin...and Wine Shield works a lot better. I've kept red wine at cellar temp up to 4 days and white wine refrigerated for two weeks, and while the wines were clearly not fresh, they tasted far less tired than with the Vacuvin.

The installation of the discs is a little fiddly. I find it easier to open up the whole bottom of the packet and wind the disc around the tool a few times rather than the one twist in the instructions. The key is to work quickly and get it into the bottle in the least crumpled condition as possible. If it does go in a little crumpled, don't worry, it will flatten out in a little bit.

I was looking for some inexpensive wine gifts and came across these. I tested them out before giving them to friends and found great results. Just drop one in the open bottle at the end of night and its stays fresh for the coming days. Best price as well..
