It was extremely easy for direct tv

It was extremely easy for direct tv
Got this yesterday and immediately set it up. It was extremely easy for direct tv. For those who posted they couldn't get it to work; either didn't know what they were doing or had a defective transponder. The compass is usable but will only get you close. I also used a dish pointing app on my phone which likewise only gets you close.Level the base, get close to your azimuth, set your angle and then use the tv to view signal strength. You may have to adjust your angle different from your settings. My setting said 45° but I could only get 80% when I got my azimuth right. I had to move the angle to about 47% TO get in the 90s.I left the 25 foot coaxial attached but did not use it. I used a 50 ft chord I currently use for tailgating and attached it to the other connection. . The dish comes with 2. I didnt try it but I assume you could hook up 2 boxes if you wanted or dvr.I didn't have to call direct tv. Worked right out of the box.THIS IS NOT A HD dish for direct tv. You will only get standard def. YOU WILL ALSO have to use an older box. The newer boxes may not work. Check compatibilityThis thing is way more portable to tote around than the dish ive been using for the last few years. That thing is currently sitting on the side of the road looking for a home.UPDATE:ive had this thing for 4 years now...and it has never let me down. I put it on the hood of my old tahoe when ni tailgate so i always have to level. I got tired of using my corn hole bags to level so i bought 3 inch bolts, wahers, and nots and made NEW adjustable legs. see in photo.Fill it with sand to keep the wind from auto adjusting your dish.YOu simply cant beat this dish. It is highly portable, durable, and cheap. There are plenty of satellite pointer apps now to make set up a breeze.

This is my first ever review, because I don't have a lot of time, and I try to be a very low-maintenance customer. Let me start by saying I love Amazon. Love the times-saving of shopping online, love the easy browser, love Amazon Prime, and LOVE the service. Having said all that, I'll tell you that I don't love the Winegard GM-MP1 Carryout. We purchased it via Amazon, it got here quickly, we put in over 6 hours in three different locations using a working satellite finder, we followed the instructions, and we could never get it to work. I called Winegard and spoke with a very nice representative. She asked me some questions, determined that there probably wasn't anything wrong with my dish. She then told me that yes, this little (too little, in her opinion) dish was indeed very difficult for people to set up and use, and she wondered why her company still produced and sold them. So, if you're a busy person like me, and you want to be able to set up a portable satellite dish quickly, I strongly recommend you skip this one. I wrapped it back up, used the easy returns system Amazon provides, and sent it back 1 week ago. Despite the fact that this is the week leading up to Christmas, today I was notified by Amazon that my account was refunded. So, YAY AMAZON (and BOO WINEGARD)! P.S. This experience will not stop me from buying one of Winegard's Automatic satalite finding travelling dishes at some future point when we can shell out the big bucks.

This is our second Winegard MP-1 dish (my brother-in-law just had to have our 1st one!)

To say this works well, is an understatement - it is incredibly easy to setup and align, decent fade margin under most conditions, and never gives us the slightest trouble - then, it is incredibly small and the package is perfectly designed for storage (everything, including cables, (even 50' extra) sat alignment meters, sighting compass, (yes I know it comes with one, but I prefer my Suunto sighting compass) and some assorted connectors)

When the automatic dish on our RV is blocked, this is a perfect work around (or it could be your ONLY dish for that matter)

There really are no negatives for this small manual dish - If I have to come up with one, it can be a bit "twitchy" for the first time user to set the elevation, but that's a "reach" to find something - azimuth is simply not an issue especially if you use the supplied base (but we seldom use the base) - no skew adjustment to deal with - we also don't use the water "weight" container, haven't needed it - If you do use the "weight down" container, maybe use "VERY DRY" sand in the winter

Price is VERY good in my opinion and the product simply works!

I can hardly believe how well it works!

Actually ended up returning this satellite. After many tries, talking to representatives from both Winegard and Dish network I could not get the satellite to target a satellite. Ive used portable satellites before and even had the old antique satellite when they first came out so I know the principles of the workings and setup. Ended up purchasing the Dishnetwork Tailgater. So far so good.

I was looking for a portable satellite dish to use with my travel trailer when the roof dome dish was blocked by trees. Wanted it to be inexpensive, easy and simple to store, carry and setup. This product meets those needs. Like any manual system you must spend the time to align it but that is a major reason for it's low cost. When closed it is well protected for transport and when open, and filled with water, it is a very stable antenna. The worst thing about it is the cheesy elevation brackets, for a nickel more Winegard could have done a much better job there. Overall - I believe this product is worth the money.

I read all of the reviews before I ordered the Winegard MP1. I was a little worried since most of the reviews commented about how difficult the MP1 was to set un and lock on a satellite. I didn't have any of those problems, I had a few problems trying to get my DishNetWork 501 receiver to work with it, but no difficulty in locking onto a satellite after I switched to the 311 receiver. Sto, I left it outside of the RV for a few days to see if when I came back to watch some TV the satellite lock would still be good after wind, rain and direct sun. It worked perfectly. Now, I wanted to pack/unpack it to see if I could find the satellite again. I didn't pay much attention to it while packing/unpacking, but when I put it back on the stand and tried to level, I realized that the level that is built in doesn't have a bubble anymore. I moved it around, thinking that I just couldn't see the bubble. Turns out, the level no longer has any water in it. I can use an external level, it is just a good thing that this happened in the backyard instead of on a three week long road trip. Overall, I like it. Just a little disappointed that the level lost its mojo.

This product in design had potential however nothing was of quality. The plastic housing was warped so as not to have a level base to start with, and the compass was not able to find north or any other direction constantly . After spending more on satellite finders and levels and setting it up under a normal working dish only to find it was to small of a dish to receive a signal in Alaska. I was informed later that it must be at least 30" to work here. None of the other tailgate antennas will work here. Shipping was quick and easy and so was returning it.
