“I wish it was that easy. I’m no brave warrior queen.”
“I sense quite the contrary,” he said, his gaze intent.
I did not intend to review this book, being far too busy to prior commitments. So when I opened up the first page to take a quick look due to piqued curiosity, it was a surprise to me that instead of closing up the book, I instead read it.
I enjoyed Ms. Pauls writing style, which was clear, direct, and easy to understand. I liked her feisty heroine Zenna, and the very sexy Etan.
A wonderful getaway for the cold months. I also enjoy all the facts on winemaking, especially as I myself enjoy Chilean wines as some of my all-time favorites.
Now longing for someone to tell me MY lips taste like toasted caramel and that I overwhelm them with my shampoo...sigh.
This book is filled with passion that takes your breath away, as the below passage shows in delectable detail:
He pulled his finger over her jaw, tracing the line to the soft skin under her ear. “I’m sorry, Zenna, but I just proved to you, showed you, you don’t love Marcos.” His green eyes were smoldering, his pupils huge.
Her eyes widened in anger. “You kissed me … like that … to prove to me I don’t love Marcos?” she repeated in disbelief. “You son of a bitch.”
“You can call me whatever you want, Zenna, but I’ve just proven to you not only do you not love Marcos, but also that you need to get laid. Judging by your reaction, you want me. I don’t repulse you. You need someone, and, while you’re on the rebound, it might as well be me.”
Overall opinion: a "Strangely Delicious" surprise well worth indulging in! :)
4.5 estrellas! (stars)
Hotness factor: It makes you beg for it and when it finally comes... Madre de dio!
I read the blurb this time! And without giving away too many spoilers it didn't prepare me for The Winemaker. First off I have to get this out of the way say: I love wine and I would move to a winery with my own winemaker if I could. I googled the Gallo family a few times!
The Winemaker started off as a regular contemporary romance with Zenobia being dumped by her Chilean boyfriend (hurrah for the international setting!) and the dashing Etan aka The Winemaker coming to the rescue. After that so many things happened I felt like I was reading several books. The surprising supernatural storyline and the dialogues...the dialogues! I like the fresh dialogues; the jargon sounded familiar to me but foreign at the same time. You see, I grew up in Central Africa and we are avid telenovelas watchers. I still watch a few of them in Spanish sometimes. Charmaine Pauls made brothers Etan and Luca's dialogues sound authentic!
And just like that, I completely surrender to my new favorite telenovela .Pure delight and guilty pleasure!
The will they, won't they...the pace of the story made you feel like you were watching several juicy episodes... Etan and Zenobia's torture looks, emotions, passion...the love triangle... you name it Charmaine Pauls brought it!
I received a copy of The Winemaker in exchange of an honest review.
The setting of the story, a winery in Chile, makes for an interesting backdrop. The Perez-Cruz family is one that anyone would love to be a part of and Zenna is a lucky girl to be taken in by them. You feel the caring and warmth of the parents, the brotherly love of Luca and the strong bond between Zenna and Etan, even though they are unaware at times.
The book is a romance but I enjoyed the bits of "paranormal". Everyone seemed to have a gift in the Perez-Cruz family. Zenna blends right in. As in all romances, there are many obstacles for the couple to overcome and you wonder if it will ever happen. Etan was a little too hot and cold with Zenna for my liking. It went on for a little too long. That's the only small criticism I have of the book. Otherwise, I loved reading about how wine is made and tasted, the countryside of Chile and the lives of Zenna and the Perez-Cruz family. In fact, I would like more. I hope the author considers writing a sequel about this wonderful family. So pour yourself a glass of wine and sit back and enjoy the adventure.
