About the Author
Robin S. McDonald graduated from Bellarmine University, Kentucky with a degree in Secondary Education and English. She now lives with her husband, two daughters, an energetic dog and an ancient cat in the great state of Texas. Robin has always enjoyed a good story - especially one that opens up the imagination to new ways of looking at life. Christian fantasy has been an important aspect of her growth as a person and as a Christian both as a child and as an adult. Ironically, fantasy was the avenue that God used to demonstrate to her His amazing reality. It was through fantasy that God revealed to her His creativity in this world. "Winged Horse of Heaven" is her first published work and is to be Book One of the series "The Raneous Chronicles". This book is for both the young and the young at heart; the horse lover, the warrior, and all true servants of the High King.

Male main characters who use their God-given strength to battle evil will definitely get boys attention. The inclusion of St Michael the Archangel as a character ties the theology into the fantasy and again, will intrigue boys who have an attraction to this magnificent Saint.
No young (or more mature) girl can resist a winged horse who glows with the glory of God either! The above points that are strengths to attract boys are not necessarily weaknesses for attracting girls as the book always has the magnificent horse in it and the writing aims at focusing on battling out inner selves that are under evil's sway.
The sketches included are cute and well done as well. I'm somewhat of an artist with an emphasis on horses and the artwork definitely pulls the reader into the story without detracting or distracting.
Overall I think this is definitely a series I'd recommend for Catholic and/or Christian young readers ready for adventure with a moral. I highly praise it because it is suitable for boys without being gross, controversial, gimmicky, or self-agrandizing.
Winged Horse of Heaven is an excellent book of good vs. evil, taking Biblical truths and weaving them into a fictional, entertaining story. One of the truths shown here is that God always has a plan, even if it is not understood along the way. The second is that people can bind themselves into prisons when they allow bitterness and hatred to rule in their hearts. Thankfully, this story also shows how to break free of these self-imposed bars by forgiveness and choosing to be different.
Although there are demons and fights between them and the angels and horses in the story, the descriptions are not overly scary. This makes me agree the intended audience of age 10+ is appropriate.
Though written for middle grade readers, anyone who enjoys a good story will be captivated by Raneous and his mission to save Brian. I confess to being a big kid (okay, 50 and technically aging every day) with a love for well written books and great adventures.
Now... as a fellow writer in this genre, I was still blown away by the uniqueness of her story and how she built her world! I will have to say that this book and the author greatly inspired me in my journey in revising my very first book, The Miraculous Birth (Light Horse, Dark Horse Book 1)
Not only would young readers (who can tolerate some violence) enjoy this book, but adults, horse-lovers, Chris-followers, as well!
As Ms. McDonald so eloquently put it: "...this book is for the young and the young at heart, the horse-lover, the warrior, and all true servants of the High King."
As a fellow writer, a young horse-lover, and warrior servant of the High King, I highly recommend this book!
