Where the writers lose me is the silly, sloppy, syrupy dialogue between Alex and Ben as they fall in love. Its honestly revolting and is a compilation of the worst of 'Bridges of Madison county', 'Horse whisperer', 'Night's in Rodanthe' type dreck that pre-teen girls devour by the ton. It will make you barf if you are over 14.
The sad thing is they've written a pretty good book about a monstrous high tech bio-weapon that has the potential to wipe out whole races. Wow! Could we possibly hear more about this? I mean seriously, could we possibly leave the Harlequin Romance behind and focus on an interesting, and compelling storyline? Puh-leeze!
There is intrigue, violence, backstabbing galore; all of which works pretty well.
Finally, they end the book on a cliff-hanger. WIll Alex finally be reunited with Ben????? Tune in next week and find out!!!! Give me a break.
I found the plot and characters to be unique and interesting.
My only complaint is that this is a 'series', and the end of the book leaves much of the story unfinished.
It does have a closing event that was meaningful. But the story is far from over.
The writing is good enough that I may buy and read the next book.
But I would much rather read complete books and not be left hanging.
Mr. Landes, you are a very good author. And the book is well edited, with very few mistakes.
When I find an author I really like, I buy all of their books.
Please consider writing stand alone books in a series. Then I, and many others, will read them all.
The chase twists and turns its way from Sydney to Paris to San Francisco, to an isolated jungle outpost in Brazil, to Washington DC. What is at risk? It's huge.
Author Paul Landes takes us on a high-tech who-dunnit adventure populated with memorable characters, played out in extraordinary scenery.
At least one other adventure is forthcoming. You will want to get in on the ground floor by reading this one.

Not inexpensive. But fine if it's what your looking for.
