A little disappointed because our 11 year old solved it within 10 minutes. Someone else opened the package and played with it first, so it was not already solved for the 11 year old. However, this 11 year old is not the average 11 year old and it others may not have the same experience. There is nothing wrong with the product or the quality.

Inexpensive and good puzzle for kids (grade 4) to work on. I first saw this puzzle about 20 or 30 years ago. I thought I would buy it for my son for a challenge. He is 9 years old and in grade 4. I figured he could never do it because there are thousands of possible combinations. So I told him I would give him $20 if he did it. Just for a fun challenge. That must have got him motivated because an hour later he had it solved. There are a few mathematical ways to do it. One involves graph theory and the other one, the way I know, involves the use of prime numbers. You assign a prime number to each color and the rest can be found on youtube. But the math way is almost like cheating. Doing it by trial and error seems much more challenging. At least it got him away from Minecraft for an hour. Not that that's bad but sometimes kids play games too much. It definitely took me way more than an hour to solve the Instant Insanity puzzle.

This puzzle is much harder than it looks. Be sure to take pictures of it put together correctly before taking it apart because it will probably be a long time before you see the pieces in place again. Some puzzles that are difficult make you want to give up but this one is so curious, that people keep trying and trying thinking they are almost there. It's a fun game/puzzle that can keep a child entertained on a road trip or while waiting for an appointment or anytime they want to try their skill at a brain teaser.

One would not think trying to arrange 4 cubes so that each of the 4 colors appear on the top,bottom,front and back,once and only once.This has been a popular puzzle ever since first appearing in 1968,as over 20 million have been sold,claims Willing Moves Games.I don't know if that number is only those sold by them,as I have had one by Parker Brothers for many years. I also have a couple of wooden sets that come with a wood case with a chord to keep the cubes secure. It is very well made of exotic wood and made in Thailand by Mandalay.That one goes by the name Color Cubes.It gives the same puzzle to solve (each color once and only once on the top.bottom, back and front).
However it gives two other Puzzles;
Puzzle 2. Arrange the cubes in a square so that there are 4 different colors on top,4 different colors on the bottom,and only 1
color on each side.
Puzzle 3. Arrange the cubes in a square so that there are 4 colors on top,4 different colors on the bottom and only 1 color on each side.
Solutions for the 3 Puzzles are provided in the Mandalay version.

This set does not come with a solution,but directs you to their Website,[...]n,or YouTube where you will find excellent videos explaining how to go about solving the puzzle.
As to difficulty,this would be extremely difficult to solve by chance.However with a method ,as found on YouTube,it is possible.

Instant Insanity was an instant hit with me many, many years ago.
I thought that the puzzle had disappeared until an Online search
found it for sale on Amazon.com. The packaking, by the way, was
beauifully done and easily opened.
I hope that Amazon.com will someday stock up on those 3-D
plastic puzzles whose color code indicated their complexity (blue,
white, yellow, etc). i'd like to buy ALL OF THEM.

I was surprised to see this item. It was a favorite of mine when going to school along with the Hexed puzzle. There are 4 blocks. The object is to get all four colors on all four sides. Easier said than done. Kept my kids busy for days.
