i was actually surprised it has performed this well as i figured this unit would be a bit small for this application but it has worked well.
the unit is a bit noisy but it moves a good amount of air so that is to be somewhat expected. the pump system works well and easily drains the tank to about a 4' high level going into my washing machine drain from across the room.
The unit appears well built and works as advertised.
-It was LOUD, and I could hear it all over the upstairs!
- It ran 24/7 at 50% comfort-level setting, and Only removed 1qt in 3 days (after 1hr startup wait, and 24hr Continuous).
-Bucket was Unwieldy in the Back (hard to grip/remove), and No view port (so I never knew how full, unless powered off/removed- HASSLE!).
I returned the Winix & got another Soleus 70-pint at Lowes (cost a little more, but I was able to purchase 4yr extended warranty!- With all the negative reviews about All brands of dehumidifiers iffy longevity...).
It removes a bucket a day @50% comfort-level, is Much quieter (fan on Hi!), and a front bucket w view port.
You should consider reading the TIPS in my Solueus 70-pint review, no matter what brand you buy!
If you think you might save save money on your electric bill with a 40/50-pint, over a 70-pint, think again!-
I've trialed Several 40-50 pint dehumidifiers in my basement.
All the 40-50s ran 24/7, hardly removed any water, and used only about 200 watts less.
My excellent Soleus 70-pint cycles off/on, less than 50% of the time (keeps humidity down upstairs too/open stairwell), so it actually uses Much less electricity...!
Recently, however, the unit stopped working.
Currently, the unit will run for 30 seconds when we turn unit off and on, but never restarts on its own (regardless of moisture setting), and for the last month has not removed any moisture from our basement.
Searching for a new unit now. But will NOT purchase a Winix again.
My mistake - Learned that I had not adequately cleaned the filter. After a good wash of the filter, the unit began to work effectivly again. Now running well. The unit is still very loud. May cautiously consider a Winix again...

Disappointed - the manual shows the device having a remote...no remote in the packaging! The instruction manual is fundamentally worthless. Read morePublished on January 17, 2013 by Edward T. Cuneo Jr.

Unit arrived okay and worked well for about four weeks...then the fan became very loud. After three months it simply stopped working. Amazon exchanged.Published on October 9, 2012 by Thomas
