The auto setting is way cool. Anytime the machine senses some additional smells it runs faster to eliminate them. I was worried after reading some reviews that it was going to be loud. This thing purrs like a kitten. We don’t even notice that it is on.
Another concern was the space we were going to use it in. We have an open floor plan and I wanted to cover the kitchen and family room. It does the job perfectly!
The only adjustment for us was finding a place to put it. Our previous two sat on top of the refrigerator. This guy is much larger. We finally settled on a location in the kitchen.
I am very pleased with our purchase. I just hope the HIPA filter lasts a full year. I believe they are rather expensive.
I did a lot of research, and I highly recommend Winix. Unbelievable results. The reason that I selected Winix over other manufacturers was because of the technology. I love the way the sensors automatically adjust the fan speed to accommodate not only the air quality, but also odors. The display lets you know if it is detecting poor air quality, odors, or both. The sensor is incredibly sensitive. For example, when I come home from exercising, the fan speed increases within a couple of minutes after entering the house (ok, I must stink, but the sensor is impressive). Other manufacturers allow you to adjust the fan speed, but how would you ever know when your air quality demands a low or high speed circulation? Another nice feature on some Winix models is that it will automatically sense when it is nighttime, and dim the display and only use a low fan speed. This isn't a big deal for me, but it would be helpful for light sleepers. The Plasmawave technology is also supposed to kill bacteria. I have no way of proving that, but I can say that I feel the best that I have felt in years. After this spring, I'm going to discontinue my last allergy prescription and see how it goes. Please do yourself a favor and try one in your bedroom. If it helps, great. If not, no harm done. If you are like me, you are reading this because you are desperate for allergy relief.
The smaller Winix WAC-5500 is quite a workhorse, though, and appears to be much sturdier.
I tried to reach the company 3 times. I left a message and they did not return my call. I got very frustrated 2 days later when I tried to call again and could not get a live person to speak with. If I selected operator all it did was take me back to customer service and the same voice recording to leave a message. Very dissatisfied with the customer care and decided I did not want to keep a product that I could not get any help from the company with. I returned the Air Cleaner for a refund.
