Introducing the Wink Hub
The Wink HUB allows your diverse collection of smart home products to speak the same wireless language, so that you can easily control them—and customize their interactions—from the Wink app.
The Wink app is a beautifully designed mobile app that keeps you connected to your home – no matter where you are. Available free on the App Store and Google Play.
Wink Shortcuts allow you to you control multiple products with a single tap - from turning on your house in the morning to setting the mood for movie night. It’s like having an extra set of hands to help you around the house. Which is awesome.
Wink Robots let you customize the way products talk to each other. So now you can make your Kwikset SmartCode Deadbolt tell your lights and A/C to turn on every time you unlock the front door, or set schedules to turn everything off when you go to bed at night. Think of it as teaching your home to think on its own. Impressive, we know.

These products use Wi-Fi to connect to your wireless router, and it’s quick and easy to connect them; the app will walk you through a simple setup process.
Wink App Compatible
Using the Wink HUB, these products can connect to the Wink app just like your Wink App Ready products. They use communications like Z-Wave, Zigbee, and ClearConnect to improve battery life and extend the range of other smart products around your home. The Wink HUB allows different devices to speak the same wireless language, so you can easily control them – and customize their interactions – from the Wink app.

The Wink HUB is compatible with 2.4Ghz routers running on WPA-PSK, open security, or WEP. 5Ghz networks are not currently supported. If you are operating on a WEP network we recommend that you convert your network security to WPA-PSK, as it is more secure. The Wink HUB does not have a ethernet port, it is entirely wireless.
The Wink HUB has been freshly updated to support Z-Wave binary sensors (including motion, door/window, water, and tilt), and ZigBee HA (lighting controls).
We have also added support for additional Wi-Fi configurations: WEP for wider compatibility and non-broadcasting for security.

Top customer reviews
As for the pairing issue, the app acts like it's updating the hub, but never actually does anything and eventually goes back to the message telling me there is an update available. I have tried with both an iPhone 5s on iOS8 beta3 and an iPad Mini on iOS 7.
This is the most frustrating hardware setup I've encountered. I'd hesitate to say that this hub is worth the .99 I got it for and I'm upset that I spent hundreds on new door hardware in anticipation of the way this product would work with it. I'm about a minute away from returning everything even though I really want to like this product and really would like to give it a chance. The aggravation is just pushing me over the edge.
Edit 7/11/14: It's only fair to update this review with more information that I learned from Quirky today. The customer service rep seemed very knowledgeable about the products and was able to answer all my questions and help me resolve my issues.
Firmware not updating issue: He assured me that my Wink Hub had been firmware updated and that's why it was hanging on "updating firmware" and not going any further. He says that by removing it from the app (one of my troubleshooting attempts) and re-connecting it the firmware was updated automatically. The Firmware update notice in the app not going away is a software glitch and one they are working on clearing up.
As for connecting to the Schlage deadbolt... the advice he gave was when the app says "Wink Hub Ready" give it 5-10 seconds before moving on to the next step. The screen is misleading and by doing it too quickly it's failing the pairing. Again, this is something they are working on clearing up in the app. By waiting the 5-10 seconds before moving on I was able to get my lock connected and working with the Wink Hub. This is an additional step he suggested using when pairing anything with the hub.
Just an FYI: Getting through to customer service took me all of 20 seconds. They are open 24 hours a day so if you're having issues give them a call. It was a good experience.
I have upgraded from a 1 star review to a 3 star review because of the issues that still remain within the app and pairing. I will continue to update this review and hopefully will be able to give this device a 5 star rating in the near future.
Edit 7/22/14: Recently there was an iOS App update that actually allowed my Wink Hub to have the firmware updated and the firmware update notice, that was once so annoying, has now gone away. I'm moving my rating up to 4 stars because the hub has worked wonderfully since I got passed the issues I was having originally. Currently I have my Dropcam (no hub needed), Schlage Lock and Quirky spotter attached. I hope to receive the GE lightbulbs in the next 6 weeks or so and will update again at that time.
I will quite possibly end up giving this hub 5 stars if it keeps going as well as it has. I'm just holding off until the lightbulbs need to be paired. I will be extremely pleased if the pairing issues are all gone with this latest update (see comments from Quirky on this review) and I can hook them up without a hitch.
Edit 8/30/14: We picked up 6 of the GE Link Light Bulbs today. Pairing with the app did not work via the barcode scan (it said this device is not supported yet) but was able to set them up using the Zigbee Light pairing option. Once I discovered that option all went well and the lights were added very quickly. Before I figured out how to pair (instructions on the bulb boxes were very very basic) I tried to call customer support and ended up on hold for 20 minutes. During that time I continued to play around and figured out the correct way to add, so hung up without talking to a support person. This was a very different experience than my first call, so they must be getting more calls these days.
I also did a firmware update on the hub today and it went off without a hitch. Definitely an improvement.
I am keeping my star rating at 4 because I don't think this is a stellar product, but it's definitely worth checking out if you're looking for an inexpensive way to start your smart home foray.
Edit: 10/11/14 - I'm sad to say that I'm dropping my Wink Hub rating to 3 stars. When it works it's great. When it doesn't work it's a huge headache. I've now got 13 different devices using this hub and last week it just stopped working. After several phone calls with the outstanding Wink support team I manage to get it back online and think all is well and then a few hours later it's not working again. I don't want to mess around with my home automation. I want to set it up and forget about it, and unfortunately that's not the case with the hub as it stands today. I've lost my trust in it. I think I'm going to start looking at other hubs that will work with the devices I have currently and see where it goes. I'm not 100% ready to give up on Wink, but if this is the frustration I have after using their hub (I only paid .99 for it), I'm certainly not willing to shell out $300 for their wall unit that's coming out later this year.
Edit 10/14/14 - Received my Smartthings hub today. My Wink just kept dropping out on me and I have been unable to keep it connected and working for over a week now. I'm going to give the ST hub a shot and see how it goes. So far, I've paired my bulbs and 2 Leviton wall outlets and all I can say is ... WOW! What I thought was acceptable lag using the Wink Hub, doesn't exist with this new hub. Everything is instant on. Just this one thing makes me happy. Off to a good start at least.
Edit 4/20/15 - Yesterday I received an email from WINK explaining that they had bricked a good chunk of their WINK hubs and I would need to send my hub to them to have them fix it and send it back to me. They also stated they were suspending sales until they could get this situation fixed. They have been good at communicating over this issue and have made strides to make it right, but the fact that they killed their own product and made it unusable for a large portion of their users is mind boggling. I am sending mine in to them to be fixed even though I no longer use it with the hopes that some day if I decide to start using again it will still function.
Edit 11/4/16 - I had my "updated" (see last update) hub in storage until last week. My daughter moved into her own apartment so I sent it off with her, positive they had to have fixed all the issues with this device. Unfortunately, she's been unable to get it to connect to her network even though she's going through all the steps. I'm going to see if I can help her out, but if not we'll be setting her up with a smartthings hub.
