From the Manufacturer
People have been getting twisted and tangled playing Twister since the 1960's! You'll fall over with laughter as you get "tied up in knots"!
Twister is played on a large plastic mat spread on the floor or ground. The mat is the board game. The mat has four rows of large colored circles on it with a different color in each row: red, yellow, blue, and green. A spinner is attached to a square board and serves as a die for the game. The spinner is divided into four labeled sections: right foot, left foot, right hand, and left hand. Each of those four sections is divided into the four colors (red, yellow, blue, and green). After spinning, the combination is called (example: right hand yellow) and player move their matching hand or foot to a dot of the correct color. In a two-player game, no two people can have a hand or foot on the same circle. Due to the lower number of colored circles, players will often be required to put themselves in precarious positions, eventually causing someone to fall. A person is eliminated when they fall or when their elbow or knee touches the mat. There is no limit to how many can play at once!
Twister patented by Charles F. Foley and Neil Rabens in 1966, did not become a success until the actress Eva Gabor played it with Johnny Carson on television's Tonight Show on May 3, 1966.

I also have to be fairly pragmatic in my discussion of the game. There is simply no way that I'm going to give Classic Twister less than five stars. Why? It is a genuine low technology classic that provides just as much fun today as it did decades ago. The retro appeal is intoxicating (and the game can also be fun intoxicated). We've become so reliant on bigger and better entertainment options. Technology has given us the illusion of togetherness, but it has also eliminated actual human interactions to a certain degree. That's why I'm still a fan of board games or ANYTHING that puts people in the same room. Twister does that and much more. It is awkward, liberating, and downright silly. Who cares who wins or loses? It's about the journey.
From a technical standpoint, this Classic Twister has all the limitations that you expect from the game you remember (still not giving it less than five stars!). The vinyl mat is still pretty flimsy and the ridiculous Spinner is still as inept as ever. Of all the things they might have upgraded, did no one think to make a spinner that actually worked properly? Personally, I find it hilarious that they maintained this element when it was so easily fixable after all these years. It provided a true retro experience! Twister may not be a perfect game, but it makes for a good interactive party. Some things never change, and that's a positive in my book. KGHarris, 10/14.
This has long been a blast to play with friends & family.
Good old fashioned fun. No screens or keyboards for a change.
My 5 yr old Grandson actually requested this for Christmas, and he loves seeing the adults falling over.
The laughter and closeness this game brings is just priceless!
I have not tried the other "remixed" version of Twister so I cannot speak to how the two compare in terms of build and quality, but this version is everything I remember Twister being. Personally, I like the this classic design better than the new design which just seems a bit generic.
Bottom line, if you want the classic Twister box and spinner artwork, get this version.
WHAT IT IS:
- A simple two-piece game that consists of a vinyl mat with 4 columns of 6 colored dots and a cardboard spinner that instructs people as to which colored dot they need to put their right/left foot or right/left hand. The goal of the game is to simply follow the spinner’s instructions and avoid elimination by not falling over or putting your elbows or knees to the ground … last person remaining wins. The necessity of people to find creative ways to follow the spinner’s instruction is what generates the fun. The instruction spinner is pre-assembled.
WHY IT WORKS:
- Being introduced almost 50 years ago, most people are familiar with the game and its simple nature … it is probably THE original party game. There is no learning curve and it can be played by kids and adults alike … a great way for kids to take a break from their electronic toys and actually play with their parents.
- The game can be set up almost anywhere, as long as there is a flat surface with enough space to lay out the mat … indoors or outdoors.
What I like about CLASSIC TWISTER is that it replicates the version I was familiar with as a kid … including the graphics on the box that contains the game. CLASSIC TWISTER is simply a “must have” game.
