Winning Without Losing by Martin Bjergegaard and Jordan Milne is a book about the work/life balance in the context of entrepreneurs.

I really like the idea of this book. How to maintain a sense of balance in your life even though you're working to keep your company afloat or to grow it before it fails. The book is organized into 66 small essays representing 66 tips that can help you regain the balance. It is organized into seven sections: how to do things more smartly, how to do things differently than usual, how to eliminate things that waste your time and energy, how to keep moving even if life seems against you, how to design balance into your life, how to get into the mindset of balance and how to do it.

As the book is very fragmented I felt it easy and fast to read but felt it lacked a lot of elaboration on most of the subjects. The quality of each essay also varies greatly with some essays being distilled wisdom while others seem to be there to make up the numbers.

Overall it is a very interesting book. If this book had an extensive bibliography it would have been a great book but without it, it becomes a handy book instead to introduce you to some new ideas and thoughts you can try to pursue balance in work and life.

For those of you looking for "what's new" or "the magic cure" turn back now. Truth is, NO book whas anything new to say. Self help / business / non fiction / spirituality it's all been dozens of times over. There's not an information deficiency, there's an application deficiency. Don't believe me? Look how many diet & health books flood your bookstore come January. 66% of Americans are obese or overweight! So then why read new things? Because what you are actually looking for is a FRESH perspective.

Winning without losing provides this fresh perspective. I love Martin's style, but above all I love his authenticity. Martin is able to motivate you to get out there and start something.

Thanks for the kick in the boot and a fresh perspective, Martin!

The book is structured in a very accessible, easy to read series of tips and tricks, all based on lessons learnt or espoused by successful entrepreneurs. The will be something in this book for anyone seeking to improve their work efficiencies and happiness generally. It would be good to explore some of the concepts in more depth though, as it is sometimes glossed over in pursuit of brevity. Regardless, I will refer back to this book again and again.

Very easy to read. Well structured book, short and to the point, and extremely well written.

Many good idea, very practical and easy to implement....But it's geared towards entrepreneurs, not so much towards employees. Also many of the ideas are not groundbreaking or brand new. What is new is collecting all these strategies into one great package.

The values from this book are something I promote darn-near religiously on my show (The Art of Charm Podcast). I've had Martin as a guest and my audience were immediately huge fans. I especially appreciate the practical advice on getting there versus many books and pundits which simply state the virtues of doing so.

Becoming wildly successful while still living a full life sounds like an idea that is too good to be true. But Martin shows us that not only is it achievable, but he also provides us with a number of easy to follow strategies to get there. I find this read very inspiring and a great reminder that having a great career doesn't necessarily translate to sacrifices in other areas of life.
