I highly recommend this book. Before I read this book by Barb Roose, I struggled with worry and anxiety daily. I would worry about my girls, my schedule, my parents, so many things really. I had gotten to the point where I would wake up every day feeling nervous and anxious, before I even got out of bed.
When I read Barb's book I got so much practical advice that was simple to apply to my life. Her book is an easy read and enjoyable because she has such a great sense of humor. The biggest thing, for me, was thinking about the fact that I really don't want to know all that God knows. I always feel like I want the answers and I want them now. I feel like somehow I will feel better if I have all of the answers. But, in all actuality, I absolutely do NOT want to know all that God knows. Its enough for me to know that He knows the outcome and He will be with me through all of my "worry journeys"
After reading this book I tend to look at worry differently. I realize that I don't have to know the outcome. God has promised He will be with me and its ok for me not to know it all. And, amazingly enough, this has allowed me to give up some of my control, and thus release such a strong hold on my anxiety. I feel much more relaxed and secure in my daily life. I am so thankful for that.
In this book Barb lays out tools & truths to truly help win the worry battle. A quick fact that struck me was that 85% of the things we worry about don't even come true! 85%! It's simple truths like this that Barb has a way of presenting so clearly. It's filled with ideas and reminders to carry through your day.
Barb is an incredible communicator who has a true gift. It is such a blessing that she is able to share her gifts with us through her writing. So well written, I have a few people in mind to gift it to!
I would highly recommend you buy Barb's book and study book to help you "Win the Worry Battle"!
She writes in a very intimate, colloquial manner. She likes the phrase “mic drop,” and uses it often. It is as if you are talking to a friend who knows your nonsense and can help you sincerely. So many times I felt as though she articulated a fear or worry of mine that I thought no one else would understand.
She supplies example prayers throughout the text. She gives tasks to allow readers to do things to engage their hands, hearts, and heads. From scrapbooking to setting our worries on slips of paper and burning them, she has many things to try to further you along in your relationship with God, not just battling your worry. All this while also emphasizing prayer, reading Scripture, worship, confession, repentance, and allowing God’s forgiveness in our lives.
Her creation of a fictional Israeli woman for use to follow from the Book of Joshua is an inventive device. It allows us to be in a time and place through empathy. For me, it bridged the gap from Bible to now, a way to show how the Bible acts in our lives, even when we think our lives might not be relatable.
The book builds upon her ideas and can be read and re-read. I thoroughly enjoyed her candid look at worry and hardily recommend this book to Christian women seeking relief from worry. (Although all women and men could benefit from this book.)
