I have a 27" desktop monitor (I need the screen space for my work, and it's good for gaming/Netflix too) plus a full-size keyboard and a mouse on the bottom shelf. It's a tight fit but works out fine, and I'm not worried about stability.
The top shelves are relatively shallow but holds what I need them to (some smaller books, jewellery display, trinkets, etc.)
It wasn't too hard to assemble either.
One note of caution: when moving it to a different spot on your wall, pull it AWAY from the wall before moving it laterally - don't just drag it over. If you don't move it away from the wall first, moving it will likely leave a dark mark on the wall where it used to be.
What I love about this is it only comes out from the wall about 2.5 feet (which is the desk surface). I have a very small work room and wanted to convert it into a workroom / guest room and needed to free up some floor space. This did the trick.
The directions are difficult only because it's not clear in the diagrams where the angles are in the rails. So take your time & think about it while you're piecing it together. Otherwise you'll be reassembling it. :) I did with the book shelves that match this & it's very frustrating.
It really does look sharp once you start putting decorations & books & computer pieces on it. Very stylish & different. I bought 2 books cases to go on either side & it looks cool.
I would recommend a keyboard tray to add to it, the desk surface has plenty of room for mouse & keyboard, but it can be a little cramped if you like to game. It's also a little high for me (I'm short!) to comfortably type. :)
All in all - it was well worth the price!
In comparision to other self-assembled furniture I've purchased over the years, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed at the packaging. Each component was individually wrapped either in cardboard or a thin foam sheet and cardboard box spacers ensured that everything stayed secure within the box. If you think you are 'missing' the required hardware, look for them within one of the cardboard box spacers. They're were two large spacers that both felt empty. One was empty and the other had the hardware 'taped' to the inside of the box. It would be very easy to overlook this; I nearly tossed it into the bin.
Assembly is relatively easy and took about 30-45 minutes tops. You'll need a screwdriver for two of the interlocking bolts at the top of the desk and to stablize the 'desk' component from the bottom up; the shelves are secured using screws that utilize the L shaped tool included in the package.
I only found two minor defects in the wood itself (which I think is outstanding compared to what I'm accustomed to with self-assembled pieces); neither were in locations that were noticable once assembled. This feels like a very sturdy desk and I'm not at all concerned about it 'sliding' down the wall or falling over. If you will have this in a high-traffic area or you have young children; you may want to consider anchoring this to the wall. There is no included hardware to accomplish that task, but I'm sure this could be easily resolved with a trip to your local hardware store.
Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase. It is a very nice looking desk and a rich black color (not high gloss or entirely matte; but there is a slight bit of sheen) Make sure you pull it completely away from the wall if you're trying to center it a few inches 'this way or that' since dragging this across your wall will surely leave you with black scuff marks. The shelving units allow you to add a pop of color with small decorative items (smaller books will fit on the second shelf), which will really dress up your desk. You could possibly get away with placing smaller computer speakers on the second shelf, but nothing too big. If you wanted a place for extras, like large speakers or printer, I believe the Winsome Wood Leaning Book Shelves can be used in tandem with this desk and placed on either or both sides. Good buy, I would highly recommend :)
