Roland blames Ryker for his actions as Magnum's enforcer. Even though Magnum is dead and now Drew is Alpha. He came back, took the blood oath, but revenge has been on his mind from day one. He figures the way to accomplish this is to separate Ryker from his mate. Not by anything nefarious but by helping someone who loves her and is worried about her find her and hopefully convince her to leave.
Claudia has been searching for Saja for almost a year and now finally may get a clue as to her location. Fate has plans for Claudia and Shoshanna, her assistant and travel companion on this quest. Plans that aren't exactly the norm for humans.
As Roland prepares to out Saja, his friend Samuel becomes star struck over Shoshanna. His plans go awry as he ends up talking to Claudia while Sam pursues her friend. Roland finds he may the same attraction to Claudia. She, however, is not as receptive. Then Samuel beats him to the punch by revealing he knows Saja and where she is living.
The games begin when Claudia is forced to stay at Roland's home. Unsure of her feelings and Roland finally realizing what his are, he takes the first step toward helping her forget about age.
I really love the way Heather writes these wolves. So full of anger and overwhelmed with the past. This was another example of how the pack is healing by finding new beginnings and their mates.
This tale is about Roland James, back in Los Lobos, partly in a more underhanded way. He's angry with Ryker over the loss of his best friend and death of his parents, holding Ryker responsible. His anger leads him to lie and and lead a woman there in the hope of finding her student friend who vanished a year prior. His hope in leading Ryker's now mate, away. Thus hurt the big man/wolf.
What he doesn't count on, is his growing feelings for her.
Claudia Donovan is a Professor. She's traveling with a young friend Shoshanna Kamala, helping her with her search and company on their journey. Roland overhears the two chatting and know he will soon lead her to Los Lobos to find her friend. What he is suddenly faced with is his friend Samuel meeting Shoshanna, finding she is his mate.
Grudgingly they all end up traveling in a two vehicle convoy to town. The young couple soon disappear to enjoy their new coupling. :)
Roland meanwhile has to face his Alpha Drew who quickly sees the situation for what it is in regards to Roland's feelings towards Ryker. Roland needs to address his own feelings, how he changes his views the more time he is around Claudia, before accepting her as his mate, then having her accept him.
It's a moving story as the couple grow into their relationship, each with their own issues from their pasts. Roland with his previous pack life and Claudia, as an older woman who has struck out with love in the past. Thus her loneliness she feels at losing not one, but two friends to their mates and new home.
There is an element of humour within the story with the characters as they grow and learn to forgive the past; to accept a love and future with the happiness each really desires. We see Drew ever forgiving again as well; with his knack for just knowing things, reading his pack mates so well.
This was a well paced story, with plenty of background on each of the main characters,a well told tale drawing you into their lives. Touching on the past of the Tao pack to it's new beginnings and continued growth. I so need to read the earlier books now. :)
claudia is lured to los lobos under the guise that her former TA has been seen in the area. grabbing her current TA she sets of in hopes of finding the girl that went missing almost a year ago. in town they're waiting for the contact but nobody appears to show up. who she does meet is one handsome man, roland. as a friend of roland joins them, that friend and her current TA kinda hit things of and that friend also happens to mention he knows the girls they're looking for. even better he knows where she is.
something tells claudia a lot more is happening and then there is roland who conveniently shows up... how convenient was it really, or was it set up?
roland has a lot at stake, specially when he has to come clean to claudia.
as the pack has changed so has many of its members and that is a lesson roland learns in this book, hopefully a lesson he'll learn fast because if he keeps hold of his grudge he might lose claudia!
another marvelous peak inside the world of the black mesa wolves as things change and settle down. i like how the other character keep showing up, that way you stay in touch with them as the overall story keep developing.
