Let me begin by saying I am a huge Christmas fan, like have the house decorated at the end of November, drinking hot chocolate for breakfast and watching the SKY T.V channel Christmas 24 from dawn til dusk kind of fan. The Holiday's just seem to add something fun and carefree and exhilarating to what pretty much amounts to torrential rain, wind and freezing temperatures in Ireland so when I was presented with the opportunity to read and review a Holiday based anthology I was beyond excited.
The first story in A Winter Kiss was called The Wish: A North American Pack and Half-Blood Princes Christmas, a bit of a mouthful but at least the title informed me that it was going to be a supernatural theme. It was a bit of a confusing one for me I'm afraid but only because there are so many names of characters who are obviously well known to readers of this series involving vampires, werewolves and Half-Blood Princesses. I did eventually get a handle on a couple of the main protagonists, with Mitch and Kishi's rocky path to love garnering most of my rapt attention and once I learned a little of their tragic back story it was a pleasant and romantic read with a few terrific moments of humour and sass.
"Mitch suppressed a low growl and meant to step through the threshold and out into the bitter cold of night. He hit a wall, a clear f?ing wall. He was sure had anyone seen that, he would have looked comical from the outside as his face pressed against the unforgiving transparent barrier. "F@#&" He groaned."
Rene Folsom's The Wager: A Game Changer Holiday Prequel was up next. I haven't had the pleasure of reading the first book in this series so the prequel to me was something undiscovered and quite quirky and original as I've never read a book about gamers before. It centres on the meeting of a successful gamer Liam and a renowned but closeted sci-fi novelist Maci. There are a few of the quintessential virgin-nerd jokes involved as well as a Christmas fancy dress party where a lot of comic book heroes make an appearance but it was a lovely read with a serious amount of sensuality and mystery threw in for good measure. What I liked about it was the fact that the story and initial meeting is written and told in dual points of view from each of the main characters. It does make me want to see how it all plays out in the full length book Game Changer, which brings me to the obvious point that it does end on something of a cliff-hanger.
Lastly The Gift by S.L Dearing. Again I felt like I was missing out on an epic romance story and simply playing catch up with the main couple Matt and Kate as their Christmas tale picks up eight months in to their romance. There wasn't much substance to this story but it was still well written and it did have a beautiful overt message regarding bigotry and forgiveness and that the Holiday's are a time for family (whether they're fun to be around or not). I do think that if you have been on the journey with Matt and Kate from the very beginning that this would be a heart-warming and perfect ending to their tale. The start was a little slow but the ending was Hallmark worthy and had a simply wonderful conclusion to A Winter's Kiss.
I do think that these three stories are simply extended epilogues of books that would be best enjoyed before you begin these. The positive in this anthology is that if you're looking for an eclectic mix of super quick Christmas feel-good reads with a tender and romantic element then A Winter's Kiss may be the book you're looking for as all three stories are so varied in plot and characterisation.
The Wish by Magen McMinimy
Really loved this Christmas story of the families getting together for the holidays. The young one wanting All of them together was very funny, she was wise beyond her years. I really liked the conversations they had a lot of humor in them. This was a fun read and very sexy too.
The Wager by Rene Folsom
What an awesome prequel to a series. It did everything right, it got me sucked into the story and made me want to read more. I loved how they connected without knowing who the other was.I can't wait to read more of this story and am glad I have book one.
The Gift by S.L.Dearing
Loved it. What a great continuation of Matt and Kate's story. I liked the blending of religions and the coming together of the 2 families. There was some drama but what family doesn't have drama. These 2 are so sexy together. This book made me smile.
It is time for some holiday fun in this wonderful short. The vampires and the pack come together for Christmas. Little do they know hybrid pup Abrianna wishes upon a star. As innocent as this wish is, it forces everyone to be together. Kishi and Mitch are forced to spend the night under one roof and let's just say "WOW!" Next time they might want to make sure they are not heard! lol
Book 2~The Wager by Rene Folsom
Liam and Maci meet at a New Year's masquerade party. The attraction is mutual right off the back and the conversation flows easily. After a kiss and a desire that is burning more than they thought possible, Maci wants to play a video game with Liam. The winner gets what they want that night. A name revealed or Sex? Which one is wishing for which? Read on to find out..... ;) The ending had me wanting more!
Book 3~The Gift by S.L.Dearing
I wanted more of Matt and Kate and S.L. Dearing DELIVERED!
After meeting one another at an art gallery we are graced with the presence of these two once again and YES, they are living together!!
They are happy and in love in Malibu. They moved into Matt's home and are now gearing up for the holidays. They will celebrate their first Chanukah and Christmas together.
Before they can touch upon "THE GIFT" they will be blessed with, they must endure a very unexpected situation. Will it tear apart the love they have found with one another or can these two beautiful people make it through this holiday season?
This was a great touch by S.L. Dearing and I fell even more in love with this couple.
Now I will be waiting for... (A Pen and Paintbrush Short Story Book 3) with so much ANTICIPATION!! ;)
