The good, is that the writing itself wasn't bad, not at all. It's quite good actually, it's the story-telling that's not.
The bad: literally everything is. The characters are one-dimensional and the story moves insanely fast. Just half-way would have been better splitting it into 2-3 different books to show her growth. At one point there is literally a 3 year jump and you're like wtf? How did we get here? I don't relate to any of the characters because honestly they are not believable. It was insta-love worse than Twilight, rushed time-line, with little understanding of anything. The writing was good, but this is like an overly drawn out synopsis of what should have been a series, crammed into one book with dialogue.
I felt mislead by the awesome cover and reviews.
Evil stalks her adopted home, and she must fight to protect her love and the future. The MC character's relationship with her sister/friend is pivotal to this story. Indeed is will come back to haunt her. Secrets have been kept to ensure her survival.
War does come, and the MC is changed by the loss of her lover, and instead of being a Queen she must be a warrior, ruthless and unforgiving. We watch this young woman journey from servant to a warrior, and finally a murderer. Instead of fighting she rampages out of control. She feels betrayed and has been many times. She will pay for her mistakes in more ways than one, tragically. The question is will she survive long enough to become the Queen she was meant to be and how many more sacrifices must she make?
Very descriptive and vivid world building. This book had some of the best battle scenes I’ve ever read. Fast paced and action packed as this book is it was the growth of the MC that kept me reading. All of the supporting players in this book are fully developed and believable. Many authors only give these characters a glossing over forgetting they're importance to the story as a whole. This heroine’s feisty attitude combined with her inner strength and desire to see peace has convinced me that this will not be the last book by this author that I will read.
Such is the nature of a saga. Such is the nature of this book. Highly recommended.
