Editorial Reviews

Review

''The third book in the charming 'Seasons of the Heart' series has wonderful, sweet characters . . . Hubbard skillfully shows readers that sometimes living simple isn't all that simple for some folks.'' --RT Book Reviews --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

About the Author

Drawing upon her experiences in Jamesport, the largest Old Order Amish community west of the Mississippi, longtime Missourian Charlotte Hubbard writes of simpler times and a faith-based lifestyle in her novels. A deacon and dedicated church musician, she now lives in Minnesota with her husband and their border collie.

If you have not read the first two books in this series, I highly recommend you start with them before you move on to Winter of Wishes. I promise you, you'll love this book even more having done so.

I fell in love with the Lantz family right away. I've been biding my time for Winter of Wishes to be released so I could see where author Charlotte Hubbard would take this amazing family. Rhoda has watched happiness happen for her sister, Rachel and mamma, Miriam and wonders if maybe it's missed her altogether. I'll admit, when I read the summary for this book, I was worried that Rhoda would make some hard choices that would change the lives of the Lantz family forever. Ones that I wouldn't agree with. This book kept me intrigued and had some twists I didn't see coming.

I truly had a hard time putting this book down. I have read a lot of Amish books in my lifetime and can honestly say that this series of books ranks as one of my favorites. Author Charlotte Hubbard did an outstanding job once again and I continue to look forward to reading more of her work in the future. Hint, hint, Charlotte. I hope Seasons of the Heart will continue. I want to know more about the Lantz family and Willow Ridge!!

I'd rather have a better rating system. To me , a 4 is incredible praise, a 3 is very good and 2 is not bad. This whole series captured my attention and I VERY much enjoyed all the characters. The Chistian themes were quite sweetly portrayed. But most of the characters were a little too perfect or too nice except, of course, for the bishop. Whatever the case, overall 2.5 for this particular book but just for general sweetness and a nice memorable, clean story, I'd say I'll bump up to 3 rather than down. All the books in this series were at that level. Sweet relationships and just a general niceness. The romantic sections were somewhat predictable however and, SPOILER ALERT: if their preacher was forced to wait until his wife died (divorce situation) before marrying, why would same preacher, due to become their bishop, give the ok for these two ( the man was divorced with a living wife) to marry if he became Amish and joined the church? Oh well, so much for logic. The scenes showing one person forgiving another, many scattered throughout the series, and showing simple love and grace, were enough to bump up my rating however. I just happened to like the whole series. Especially the first two books but I don't remember as Amazon asking me to review those?

WINTER OF WISHES is the latest book in Charlotte Hubbard's Seasons of the Heart series. This is the second book in this series I've read and I'm sure I'll read all of them. Charlotte really has a flare for writing like the Amish people live. Her story grabs you and wanting to know what happens next keeps you turning the pages. In WINTER OF WISHES Andy and Rhoda come from two different worlds. Witnessing their emerging love along the lively secondary characters is worth the adventure. Get this one and snuggle up for a heartwarming read.

Sorry to say I'm a little disappointed in the latest addition to Charlotte Hubbard's Sweet Season's Cafe. I have no real issue with Ms. Hubbard's style of writing, with the exception of the over usage of the endearment, "honey-bug." I do love the first two books about the Lantz family, especially the coming together of Rachel, Rhoda & 'Rebecca.' Great characters, believable & interesting plots, enlightening of the Amish Old World Order. I anxiously awaited this third installment and was happy it would primarily revolve around Rhoda Lantz. I had no problem with Rhoda going to work for an Englischer. What I do have some issue with, is the speed at which Rhoda falls in love with this man. Ok. It's a book & sometimes things have to move quickly to advance the plot. I'll roll with it. Yes. People can fall in love at first sight. It's possible. The book fell apart for me when Andy rather quickly decides he wants to become Amish. Maybe this can happen, but it seems unrealistic that it would be such a fast & easy decision. What's even more unbelievable is the swiftness at which the two children happily accept this MAJOR change in their life & lifestyle. No Englischer children, no matter what age, would so readily give up tv, computers, computer games, their friends. It would have been better if Ms. Hubbard had showed some resistance on the children's part & their conflict of feelings knowing how they love Rhoda. Andy also shows no concern that his children's education will end at the 8th grade. Remember - we're talking about an educated man who did & should want his children to go further in their education. He is still an Englischer where that is concerned.Read more ›

Oh my this series is the best! I just love the way Charlotte brings her characters to life, I can't wait to read the next book in the series to see just how the characters evolve. I love the love interest of Rhoda, what a great plot. I just want Herman to get his even more than what came out in this book. Ready for more good reading Charlotte.
