The characters in this book are developed and you want to cheer for them . Jax is an alpha male and is trying to keep Brea safe but he is so block headed, you kind of want to slap him a few times . Brea is a strong girl but she also has a vulnerability to her , she has basically been lied to for most of her life . She doesn't want to be deemed second class and she wants to fight it all . When they are together there is an attraction and there is a need and a want . They both can't deny . The rest of the cast of characters is Declan and Gabrielle Jax's brother and sister . Then we have the elders who you really can't trust at all . They seem nice but well you know the saying never trust an nice guy wearing white .
I truly enjoyed this book but there were a few times where I felt it just a little confusing and I had a hard time figuring it out . Other then that I liked the idea and the story read fast . I started it this morning and had it read by this afternoon . I would add this book to your summer reading list
There are two types of people covered in her story. The Gatekeepers are the ones that go back and gather information, stop negative things in the past and generally keep the present safe. That part of the story was interesting and you get to know how this family of Gatekeepers works together. Then you have the additional element of Seconds. That is where Brea comes in and boy, does she make a splash. Let’s just say, she is her own woman. She has seen things that the Winters have not, and she is not content to sit back and let things continue as they have been. She is a dynamo.
Shannyn Leah has created a wonderful world with time jumpers, unborns, elders, gatekeepers and seconds. These all work together to make an amazing adventure with romance, danger, and intrigue. This is a fantastic book. I hope she carries in with the Winter family. I need to read more about them all.I love time travel and she really aced the time travel aspects!
The story is different from her earlier work yet it contains the same type of strong likable characters that we recognize from her other books. She certainly knows how to bring us wonderful men like Jax and confident women, like Brea that want to make a mark on the world. I loved the interaction between the characters and just the unique connection that they shared.
Shannyn Leah is a new author to me. I really enjoyed this book.
Brea was born a second, a lowest rank of the population, but she was also born with a birth mark that destined her to marry a gatekeeper Jax. Jax is also one of the highest in his hierarchy, he was raised to keep the balance of time.
Brea does not like being told what to do, and has vowed not to complete the marriage ceremony.
Will Brea accept her destiny and marry Jax in time to balance time. Or will she once again be forced to do what he has vowed not to do?. I was able to follow the characters and I enjoyed the plot. I would definitely recommend this book to all my fellow readers.
His brother Declan needed some help in the attitude department as well. Not as bad as his father but he was leaning that way more than once. His sister, Gabrielle as a mixed bag. At times I liked her when she was kinder to Brea but she could also be incredibly insensitive at times too.
This story had plenty of surprises and twists in it with really good science fiction and world building. There was so much more truth that has been withheld from ALL of the citizens of this world.
I wasn't totally happy with the ending of this book but it does have a H.E.A. for now. But you can also see the trouble that will be coming if the story continues, which I bet it will.
On a side note, I really liked the cover for this eBook. It really caught my eye.
