Caitlin ‘Cait’ Hart is following her friends, Tara O’Brian and Tanner Woodson, after attending the weekly Sunday dinner at her mother’s home when she sees a car run her friends off the road and leave the scene. Tara is rushed to the hospital but, sadly, Tanner, doesn’t survive the crash into the ravine. A fluffy white cat that Cait later learns is named Moirai, appears at the hospital and she knows he has been sent by Tansy, a local intuit, to help solve the case. She thinks it was intentional and wants to ‘the ‘Scooby Gang’ to investigate but Deputy Ryan Finnegan, Madrona Island’s resident deputy, friend, and a soon-to-be brother-in-law, tells her that it must be low key and off radar because for some unknown reason, the sheriff has assigned an out-of-town deputy to investigate.
A strong willed and crafty cat named Moirai helps the crew of friends and siblings track down clues as a storm threatens the island community. I always admire how the townspeople pull together.
Kathi Daley writes clean cozies but that does not mean there is a lack of danger or excitement.
There is always more than first meets the eye and a deeper explanation for tragic events.
Still, we are left with hope for something better to come.
The gang joins again to try and help figure out what happened but have to be careful as a detective has been sent in to help and they don't want to get Finn in trouble.
This kept me guessing, especially as to what was uncovered on the victim that died. I didn't figure it out until Cait did, I love when I'm led along with the character.
I will definitely continue on with this series.
There is the addition of some yummy sounding recipes in the back.
This series and its characters are a perfect mix of friendship, lose, love and mystery that will have you guessing "Who did it" till the end. I love a great mystery that I can't solve till the end. She definitely challenged me.
If you haven't picked up this series yet you are missing out. A true Cozy mystery you will enjoy.
People are being run off the road and this time Tara and Danny were two of the almost victims. So the Scooby team starts a quiet investigation. Leading them to uncovering a side of their new friend Tanner they didn't expect.
And it's nice to see the private lives of the group progressing.
These are clean reads. Well written and well edited. Kathi has an inventive mind and produces interesting and plausible plots and populated her series with likable characters that you would not hesitate to sit down and visit with. Like all cozies some logic necessary to self preservation is lacking but that is necessary to the plots of this genre of books. Most of the actions of the characters is plausible and the dialog is clear and easy to read.
These are the types of books that you sit down and enjoy. You become involved in the dynamics of the group and after a while you are as familiar with he locale as if you lived there. The book is set on a fictional island in the real San Juan Islands off the cost of Washington.
If you have never read one of Kathi's book then you are in for a treat. She has written quite a few so get ready for your book budget to be blown.
I love this series and seeing some of these secrets being revealed to the right people at the right time was a great payoff for the characters as well as the readers. At least one of the secrets doesn't involve a happy ending, however, so be prepared for that as well.
The mystery in this story was a trickier one than usual, IMO. The things that seemed like clues turned out not to be, and the red herrings seemed to outweigh the real clues. I was totally surprised by the reveal of the killer, and saddened by the events which prompted that person's actions.
The end of this story seems to point toward some new characters for future stories, so I can't wait to see how that all works out. I hope it will bring some happiness to one of members of the "Scooby Gang," who truly deserves it.
