great price for a great honing stick. Keeps my knife in good cutting shape. Don't trust the title. It's not for sharpening your blade. It's for honing. Honing straightens out the edge of the blade. Sharpening removes material. A dull blade will not improve no matter how much you hone it with a honing stick.

It was based on the rating of someone else on Amazon that I chose this particular tool. My father always said that sharp knives are as important to a cook, or chef, as wrenches are to a mechanic. And he knows what he's talking about. He happens to be both. And I have tried other ways to sharpen a knife but never liked the long term effect that they had in wearing down the blade. Making them look quite ugly. A friend of mine has a restaurant and he prefers a sharpening steel just like this and he has shown me the difference. But he is professional and I am domestic. And so I have to go the economic route.
Let me just say that there is absolutely no difference between this and the more expensive ones. (Except bragging rights.) Immediately upon receiving my package I opened it, got all my knives out, and made like the professionals! I am happy with the results.
It has only been a short time now, but I have faith that it will give me quite a number of years of service. If you choose this particular product, I am sure that your praises will be an echo of mine.

Great steel; it's a monster. I thought the whole thing would be 12", including the handle, but the steel itself is 12". A little more than I need, as I'm sharpening kitchen knives, not Samurai swords, but it does the job.

This is an excellent steel for honing your kitchen knives - the length is good for almost all sizes of knife. It is heavy so don't expect it to stick to a knife magnet (not that I would but I've seen some try), the attached ring is solid enough to hang it by. It's not a fine grain by any measure so if you expect a razor-sharp edge you will likely want a diamond or other similar fine-grit tool as well.

Cheap, Gets the job done.

I wanted a longer steel for sharpening larger knives when needed. I was concerned about the quality due to the low price point. So far it has taken my knives to the next step, so that I can shave hairs now.

Maybe it won't last, or won't keep up later on, but for now, it has worked great and hangs in the garage next to the knife sharpeners.

I use this every time I get out my chef's knife to cut stuff (which is all the time). After a week or two I got pretty fast, and now it's effortless. The first few times I used it, the difference was obvious, because I hadn't been honing my knife at all (because I didn't own a honing steel...). Now my knife is just sharp all the time, which makes preparing food much easier. The steel itself is of a fairly hefty weight, which is nice in case you ever need to use it to smash open the window of a car that has just driven into your kitchen.

I saw another review saying that this had an 8" blade with 12" total length, which would have been fine with me, but the product I received has 12" blade with 5.5" handle, which is how it was described on the product page. I'm guessing the other reviewer got a wrong product by error. In any case, this is a decent product for the price. The handle is plastic, but feels pretty solid. It works well on my knives.

It's as long as stated which is what I wanted. This keeps my knives razor sharp. If you use this at the end of a long day just to hone your knife you will never have to sharpen your knife again. With this you can keep a razor sharp knife for life.
