About the Author

Although born in New Orleans, I am proud to call myself an Alaskan. I have lived here since 1977. I have seen -40 degrees, hauled water, made bear bacon and I live in a cabin. I have used a fishwheel to catch salmon coming up the Copper River. I was my second husband's chief mechanic's helper and roadie. I have cut firewood on shares. I worked as a cocktail waitress during pipeline days in a small lodge on the Richardson Highway. My second husband, a Scot from Glasgow, was the love of my life. When I write Scots dialect, I personally experienced hearing it from my in laws. When my husband got on the phone to Scotland, after 5 seconds I could barely understand a word. We moved to Wasilla to get warm. It barely drops past -25 degrees here in the winter. I became a paralegal and worked for over 26 years for the same firm. Alaska is my home. I never thought I would love it so much, I never want to leave. The beauty of Alaska is a draw I cannot resist. I love the people and the history. I have been captured by a place I came to under duress. Life does play some interesting tricks on one. My love and I were not apart more than 24 hours for 20 plus years. I never wanted to be anywhere but with him. He was a man to run the river with and was my biggest fan.

For those who love rock and roll and reading, this is the perfect book for you. The author has an in depth knowledge of bands, tours and the behind the scenes action of a major tour. As with all artists, tempers run high and emotions get out of hand. Cherime Mcfarlane brings out the essence of the Scot in Hamish beautifully and his conflict over his love for Lori and his doubts about her, make that love story very interesting. A good mystery and an enjoyable read!

I really enjoyed this book. It had a Scottish flavour to it that appealed to me, being from Glasgow. It was real and gritty and the author knew what she was talking about when it came to music, bands, and all the tour drama that goes with the lives of musicians. This gave the story a realism and it was further enhanced when Hamish and Lori shared their personal relationship with me. Love is not always easy or trusting and this was conveyed very well in the characters' thoughts and dialogue.

I thought the writing was very engaging and Ms MacFarlane's natural flow held just the perfect combination to keep me engrossed and reading. I've never wanted to follow bands, live gigs, etc but this story opened my eyes to the backbiting stressful times involved in being on the road. Thanks for the great read. I highly recommend this novel and hope it gets more attention.

Very interesting book with interesting characters. A rock and roll band, a smart leader and not the usual sex, drugs and rock and roll. Hamish MacGrough is scottish and tired of traveling. His wife is American but calls Scotland home now. When the band is held in the US pending a murder investigation, Hamish decides to investigate himself to speed things along.

Go on this adventure with Hamish and the gang. Enjoyable.
