Original review (update - I still like the unit other than the concerns above): I bought this amplifier to drive a whole house speaker system drawing audio from my media computer to distribute to speakers in various locations. I was able to use it to replace an old amp and a passive speaker switch box that resulted in very uneven audio through the house. The totally cool thing about this amp is that there are SIX channels with independent volume controls. This lets me manage the volume for each location separately, which helps with varied speaker efficiency, room characteristics, and the preference of the listener in that part of the house. The odd thing about the amp is that there are mic inserts that appear to be intended for a PA. I think the primary market for this amp might be a commercial one such as a restaurant or store where a PA might be useful. The sound quality is good, but when I'm running moderately high volume in many locations the cooling fan cycles on and off loudly. If Pyle could ever marry this with the more efficient and quieter class D amps, that would be a much better product. The only other quirk is that the dials and face on the unit are 100% black, so it's hard to see the volume settings. We put white paint in the notches on the volume dials to make them more visible. The power light is piercing blue, which is kind of annoying, but at the same time, easy to spot when we forgot and left the amp on.
All in all, this is a nice, economical option for a multi-zone setup where you can adjust the volume from one spot.
Worked great for about 6 months. Then in the middle of playing USB tunes there was increasingly bad static and within 30 seconds the sound was gone. I tried all the channels, other USBs, turned on/off, radio--nothing. I had to take time off from work to call support (wasn't sure how long the call would last and they're only open 9-4 and no time zone identified). The call was short (though the phone tree was long), they sent me warranty info/form by email. Turns out I would have to pay for shipping--both ways. After calculating shipping costs it was more than I paid for the product. Buyer beware, cheap is cheap. I'm looking at local stores for a replacement.
I wanted to put this amp out of sight and out of reach. I was going to control it exclusively from Bluetooth. This will not work. I can power it on and off by using a WiFi enabled electric socket. But when it comes on, it always starts set to Line-In. I MUST use the remote or physical buttons to select Bluetooth EACH time I turn it on. it doesn't remember that it was on Bluetooth when I turned it off.
Secondly, the bluetooth devices can control volume. So I was going to set the hardware volume knobs quite loud, and use the volume control on my phone to adjust how loud it is. I'll just leave the knobs turned loud all the time. It does work this way. But the amplifier makes a chirp when it connects to a phone. And if your volume knobs are turned really loud, that chirp is really loud. You can't disable the chirp and you can't control the volume of it. When my music starts, it plays at a lower, tolerable volume. But that "chirp" connecting to the phone is really loud.
Third, since the remote is a traditional infrared remote, you must have line of sight to the amplifier to use it. Nevermind that Bluetooth doesn't need line of sight, this dumb remote does. I was going to put the amp in an out-of-the-way place where it wouldn't be seen, but I can't use the remote if I do that.
Lastly you can't pair your device with the amplifier until the amplifier is set on Bluetooth. In theory, they could have the Bluetooth always listening, always ready to pair, and then have the device automatically switch to Bluetooth if you start playing on Bluetooth.
So electronically, it's great. I love the range of features. But I was mostly interested in Bluetooth, and it's a real let-down there.
