I found literally dozens of wireless charging devices on Amazon.com to choose from. I eventually chose the TechMatte Qi Wireless Charger for my GS6 primarily due to its low price and high average ratings at Amazon.com. I was not disappointed when I received it.
Setup and operation were simple: I took the charging pad out of its box, connected the supplied USB cable to the pad and the supplied AC adapter, plugged the TechMatte Wireless Charger into a wall outlet, and placed my GS6 onto the pad. Charging began automatically.
The TechMatte Wireless Charger certainly does its job quickly and efficiently. The first time I used it, it brought my GS6’s battery from as 37% charge to 100% in just under two hours… not quite as fast as my Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger (supplied with my phone), but certainly much faster than any other standard charger I’ve ever used. Since then, it has been equally fast at fully charging my phone's battery.
It’s important to note that the TechMatte Wireless Charger works very well at bringing my GS6’s battery to a full charge while the phone is encased in an Otterbox Defender protective case. So far, I have not detected any problems with slow charging or excessive heat while the phone is sitting on the charging pad.
The TechMatte Qi Wireless Wireless Charger is an outstanding product in every way. Highly recommended.
After about 10 minutes of taking it off and putting it on; I finally had it down well enough to hit the "sweet spot" on the first try, and get the charging tone out of the phone and the solid blue light out of the charger, which indicates the phone is charging.
I've heard mixed reviews about the speed/efficiency of wireless charging; but in the case of this charger it seems roughly par with a cabled charger. The phone seems to pick up about 1% charge per minute, which translates to a little over an hour and a half for a stone dead phone. Not bad in any case. Certainly not something I'm prepared to complain about.
Surprise bonus: Out of curiosity/sense of adventure, I peeled off my Moto 360 (Dark, metal band) 1st gen and laid it on top of the (metal) band atop the charger... It worked. The watch switched over to its "charging face" and a check 10 minutes later showed that, even though the light on the charger was still red, the watch had picked up roughly 8% charge. Not really necessary, certainly not critical (I have a Moto 360 charging dock next to my bed, and one on my desk at work) but good to know about in a pinch.
I noticed in other reviews that there were complaints about excess heat. I will state that it absolutely does get warm, both in the case of the phone and in the case of the smartwatch. I would say that none of the components gets to what I would consider dangerously hot; a quick check with a stick-on forehead thermometer showed a mild fever (around 99-100 Fahrenheit) on my phone's case after charging to full from zero. The phone inside the case was almost certainly hotter, but I've generated more heat playing KOTOR (the glass got uncomfortably warm to the point where I'd stop playing and give the phone a break) on it. The charging pad and the watch really only got a few degrees warmer than room temp, call it 80-85 degrees Fahrenheit. Since I've seen AC adapters for routers and laptops get hotter... Nonissue...
Long story short; I've only had this device for a few hours and I am well pleased, and pleasantly surprised by it. If this impression does not change significantly in the next 30 days I'll be ordering one for my Mother-in Law, and Wife's G4's, and another one for my desk at work.
