Top Customer Reviews
I got a NEW Samsung Galaxy 6 - but the rep advised me to NOT use the regular port (where you INSERT it into the prong part) but rather to continue to use the wireless since (although slower) because it was less damaging to the phone (Okay I'm IN).
So, I ordered this one, NOT because it's a fast charger but bc it's $16 and I don't need my phone charged in UNDER 2 hours (I also don't let my phone EVER get less than %75 (I'm a bit OCD :-))
So, at 7:45 PM tonight, I put my phone at %80 charged on the this little guy and it was fully charged in 15 minutes (good enough for me), keep in mind it's NOT a fast charger but then again, is it really worth it to spend $50 on a fast charger? Will it last who knows?
Another thing I like about this charger is that it "fits" my phone like that old song by Depeche Mode "Hand in Glove..." aka perfectly. I think I will leave this one at home because it's so SMOOTH looking and take my other one as shown below (the circular one with the red cord, originally just meant to charge my phone in the car..but ended up the only cord that worked UNTIL I got a replacement.)
I will, update this review IF the charger proves to be ephemeral..but so far? It's awesome!!
First, although the item is called "TechMatte Nexus 5 Wireless Charger," it uses Qi and thus can charge any Qi powered device. At home I've been able to verify this works with a Nexus 5, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2013) and Nokia Lumia 920 without issue. It will charge all these devices even if the phone/tablet is off. Furthermore it has worked with all these devices in their respective cases.
The device is just a tad taller and wider than the Nexus 5. So a Nexus 5 sitting on it looks perfect. It's very light, but looks sturdy.
The device has a small light that turns on when it is charging an item. This is actually very useful. If I set the Nexus 5 on the mat it has an audible ringtone to verify it is charging. However when I set it down at night the phone is usually already on silent, meaning I get no audio verification that it is charging. Rather than having to arch myself over the screen to verify it is in fact charging, I can quickly look at the front of the charging mat and see the little green light and be assured that it is indeed charging. now a Nexus 7 blocks this light because of its size, but an N4, Lumia 920 work just fine.
This item came with its own AC adapter and micro USB wire but I am using my own, and that works without issue.
For the price I think it is a steal. I've only had it 2 weeks but if I continue to enjoy it for another month I will probably by a second one.
EDIT 8/17/2014: Someone replied to my review stating they were unable to charge their Lumia 920. This prompted me to make a very quick video showing how I was able to charge the devices I've listed above. Please excuse the video's hurried nature, and the lack of focus at times. I was using my Moto X to make it. In the video you can see that the Nexus 5 charges wirelessly because when I set it on the plate (correctly, the 2nd time) it makes a sound and the screen turns on, and the plate's LED light turns green. Next I do the Nexus 4 which also makes the plate's LED green but the phone's screen doesn't turn on, so I will eventually take you to the settings page in the Nexus 4 (running CyanogenMod) and show you that it's charging wirelessly in the battery section. 3rd devices is the Lumia 920 which requires special placing on the plate, but you can see in the top right corner of the Lumia 920 the battery charging icon blinks. Finally the Nexus 7 2013 (running Android L) was the most difficult to place but it too will charge wirelessly. They all do because they all use the Qi standard, there's no reason they shouldn't unless there's a problem with the specific plate you have (manufacturing defect) or your phone's coil.
