I separately bought the LA205 chime which this push button is labeled as being compatible with. I immediately noticed that the chime often rang two or three times for a single button push. However, after about a year, when hosting an event, the first guest rang the doorbell and the chime never stopped ringing. I had to literally take it down and pull the batteries out.
Since the stock button that came with the chime seemed to work OK, I assumed the problem was the push button and ordered a new one. However, it still rang the chime multiple times, and I didn't want to chance a repeat of the never-ending-chime, so I called technical support.
Technical support was friendly and helpful and offered to send me a new push button and chime. Unfortunately, when they arrived, the chime was the wrong one. I called back and they sent it again. Wrong one again. I called back and they investigated and decided shipping had some old stock, and sent it again. This time the correct chime arrived, but still had the same problem of frequent multiple rings per push (seems worse than the original setup in fact).
So at the end of the day, I have 3 of these push buttons, 2 LA205 chimes, and 2 incorrect chimes, all of which will be discarded for a different brand because I've had enough of Broan. More than being a waste of money, the entire saga has been a huge waste of my time and taken forever with all the iterations of shipping.
So I bought this as it appeared cheaper than a different company's entire system. This costs just sbout twice as much as the stock button, which I also purchased. By paying twice as much, I received instructions. I should not have to pay twice as much to get instructions!!! The front of the button was also in metal, not totally white plastic as the stock buttton; and the sides were brown plastic, sort of matching the front. The instructions state that the button works better if you mount it on a small piece of wood, instead of flush against a metal door jamb. I used a 1/4" thick,1" wide, 2.5 inch long piece of oak. Mounted flush, the button wouldn't reliably trigger the bell which is 25' away (but my house is stucco with metal lattice work which makes all radio/TV/wireless signals much harder to receive). But you won't get that instructio with the stock button, since there are no instructions! In addition, the instructions state that the button works better if it is not placed so the back pointd into you house, but rather sideways! How many houses are made with a sideways entryway or with the rooms to either side of the entryway? So the button was designed to have less range for the most common way of installing the button.
I've had this for a month, it gets a "5" for the appearance and the fact it (so far) has reliably worked. Nutone gets a "0" for charging twice as much as the stock button to get instuctions, and for their (apparently) deliberate design flaw which prefers a sideways mounting!
I am disappointed that Broan cannot manufacture a waterproof outside doorbell button for their wireless doorbells!
You pre drill the holes with the smallest drill then you can use the screw driver to put the screw in total there are 4
Screws . And you put the cover there is a tiny screw to hold it. Be careful not to loose it.
Update: The new button just plain didn't work, had to return it. I've got a bell with a clanger up that isn't quite loud enough, so I'm going to have to get a substantial door knocker. This technology is just too flaky. Wish they could make it more reliable.
