Otherwise, just follow these easy instructions:
After you set up the cartridges, turn on printer and press the wi-fi button until the power button flashes ONCE. Let go of wi-fi button. Then press for 10 seconds the WPS button on your wireless router. Both the power and wi-fi buttons on printer should be blinking together now. This means your printer is paired with your wi-fi. No need to buy a USB cable just for set-up.
After this, go online and do the setup. The computer will find the printer and your apple devices will too - no need to download the Canon app.
FYI, I have a MAC computer.
I tested black & white printing from all devices and works great.
Cannot speak for color printing or how much cartridge it uses. But so far I'm satisfied!
The biggest problem I had with this printer (and it was such a pain that I have to give it 3 stars instead of 5) was getting it setup for the first time. Rather than going with my initial gut notion to just plug it in and try to make it work, I thought that I would read up on the printer, follow the online guide, and then set it up they way the manual said to. This was a big mistake. My recommendation would be to ignore the manual! I spent over an hour trying to do it the way the book said. I did this on our family desktop computer, loaded up the "required" software and tried to print pictures through the Canon interface. After finally getting it to work after much hair pulling I went a completely different route on my laptop computer.
Basically when you take the printer out of the box and pull off all the tape and protective wrappings, you snap in the ink cartridges and let it cycle. After that, just push the wireless "pair" button on your modem, then push the wireless "pair" button on the printer within two minutes. TA-DAH! It joined my network, got an IP address, and flashed that it was ready.
With my Windows 7 laptop, I simply went to the Devices and Printers menu from the Start button, clicked on "Add Printer" and it automatically found the printer as a wireless device. I clicked NEXT and Windows automatically mapped the printer, established the driver and I was able to print a picture in less than 2 minutes.
After that I downloaded the PIXMA app on my iphone to try to throw some pictures to the printer wirelessly. The application worked pretty well for getting pictures from Facebook, or out of some of the more popular cloud storage services. ***IT DOES NOT GIVE YOU ACCESS TO THE AMAZON CLOUD STORAGE PHOTOS*** at least not at this time.
However, I found it incredibly easy to print directly from the iPhone without using the application. By clicking on any photo, whether from the internet or from the phone's photo album, then push the "send" function (on IOS it's the square with an arrow coming out of it), and then choosing "print" the iphone will automatically find the wireless printer and then you just have to decide how many copies you want to make.
It's that easy! You do not need to load any of the Canon Software on your computer if you are using Windows 7 or better, and even though the smartphone application does work fine, you will probably find that just using the IOS "send" function works a lot easier.
