When we feel pain or get an injury we look for a single cause instead of understanding the cumulative effects of bad practice. To make matters worse -- some yoga ...
In most yoga classes instructors provide instructions based on external form. This emphasis on form detracts from a students' consciousness of how each form feels within their own bodies. In essence, current practice undermines mindfulness in practicing yoga.
Cecile points how that much of yoga and other daily activities is practiced with disembodiment -- where we are simply unaware of the effect that the pose or activity is having on our bodies. When we feel pain or get an injury we look for a single cause instead of understanding the cumulative effects of bad practice. To make matters worse -- some yoga poses should not be attempted by some body types without modifications or substituting a better pose for your body type. Yet students in class try their best to emulate what the (usually) lithe instructor is doing to detriment to their own bodies.
For example: the instructor asks students to get into a seated forward bend. Almost all students are compromising the integrity of their backs in this pose by rounding them. Students should instead be instructed not to round or hunch their backs and to modify the pose using straps to avoid hunching the back or to substitute with another pose.
The book is replete is dozens of similar insights.
This book gently helps practitioners at all levels to begin to evaluate their own practices and daily activities by checking in with their bodies -- and -- using Cecile's techniques, modify practice and activities to build a more mindful practice and physical life -- to reach full yogic potential which is the union of body, mind, and spirit.

Yoga has become a widespread activity to help you handle your health and fitness. And you gain your best results when you practice yoga regularly, in a “Wise Way”. So far, you are all familiar with the “Hard Way” and the “Gentle Way” to practice. However, the "Wise Way" to yoga is a new approach that guides you to your best performance with optimal safety whether you enjoy an active or a slow-paced style of yoga.
The Wise Way can be applied to all styles of yoga regardless of body type, age or fitness level because it has to do with activating your whole-body intelligence for guidance. The shape of the pose becomes a guide rather than a goal. You focus on what works rather than what does not. In doing so, anyone can get the best expression of any pose or movement in each moment. It helps develop self-confidence in your potential instead of insecurity about your ability to perform.
The Wise Way to Yoga helps you to practice without the need to strain whether you are stretching or strengthening. It develops flexible strength instead of stiff strength. It allows you to enjoy your practice where you are at. You do not need to be an athlete or to be flexible to practice true yoga. With the Wise Way to Yoga, everybody has a yoga body.
The book is the author's personal and professional journey with embodiment, body image, exercise, yoga, Buddhism, meditation. It reads like a novel at times, and at other times like a textbook. The best resource to re-connect with your body, its wisdom and enjoy your yoga practice!

Cecile's book is full of knowledge and wisdom. We are asked key questions throughout, questions that help us realize how we may misuse our body both in our yoga practice and daily life. It reads both like a novel and a workbook and offers beautiful exercises to help us make profound changes. It is extremely valuable to anyone who wants to experience the joy of being fully embodied with ease, on and off the mat. Cecile's work brought me greater body awareness and led me to re-connect with myself and, as a consequence, to be more present to the moment. I wouldn't be practicing and teaching yoga anymore if I had not stumbled upon Cecile's magic touch. I highly recommend The Wise Way to Yoga"!"
