About the author

Born and raised in Opelousas, Louisiana, J D Boudreaux developed a love for the Mississippi Gulf Coast at a very young age. The Sand Dollar Series is set in both locales with a love and appreciation for both.
Boudreaux also appreciates a good story, good friends, and a good cup of coffee. They are the key ingredients that make up a great day for J D. Add a little boudin, cracklins, and Momma’s homemade carrot cake, and J D will call it a perfect day!

This is the first book I've read by this author and WISH I HAD A NICKEL is extremely detailed. At times it felt a bit like a tour of the town, other times a recap of recent weather disasters and still other times like a vacation diary from someone's road trip. I was able to visually 97% of the descriptions in my mind's eye.
The characters are interesting. There are layers to them and it's not always obvious what they are thinking. This is an interesting story because it's told from the male's point of view. This is a story about first love and best friends and oh so much more. I was surprised by the end. I thought a book of this length would stand on it's own. I didn't realize (as I mentioned before) that this is actually part of a series. I read it "blind" so wasn't sure what to expect.
I think this could be classified as a "Christian Contemporary Fiction" and I appreciated that tone in which the story is told. It's not too heavy handed, but you know where the characters lean. It's never judgmental of the reader and their knowledge of religion. It's also a romance with no bedroom scenes which is a pleasant break from what I've recently been reading.
This is a book I would recommend to my elderly mother's book club and my neighborhood book club alike.

Wish I Had A Nickel is the first book I’ve read by J.D Boudreaux and I was honestly drawn to this read because of the cover photo, the flip flops, the color scheme, it’s completely beautiful to me. I don’t know if it was my distraction by the cover photo or what, but I somehow missed that Wish I Had A Nickel is actually the second book in this author’s Sand Dollar series so once I’m finished here I will be catching up!
Straight away I was drawn into this story, something about chapter one was warm and familiar. I was drawn to the characters and their sweet, nervous, awkward interactions and found that I really couldn’t wait to see where this was going to go. It’s been a long time since I felt this way about a novel that wasn’t designed as a thriller or mystery!
The characters and storyline for this novel is truly well written, JD Boudreaux is incredibly talented in painting a picture of characters I felt that I knew and could relate to. This story reads at a slower pace than I’m used to but it honestly doesn’t take away from the story at all, the description and attention to detail really is fantastic.
I do wish I had paid more attention to this being the second book in a series before I started to read it, I feel like there are some areas that may have flowed better for me had I read the books in order. Again, this doesn’t take away from the fact that this novel truly is well written, I wasn’t lost throughout and the story still came together well I would just recommend reading in order. I am looking forward to more!

This is the second book that I have read by this author so going into it I knew that it would be beautifully detailed. I knew that the author would explore the characters to an incredible depth so that you feel like you know everything about them and I also knew it would take a little bit of time to get into. I really do not want readers to be put off with the slow pace of the story because it is totally worth it. The incredibly detailed writing of the author pulls you into the story, she makes you feel like you are right there with the characters and you know how you want the story to end.
Alex and Leigh’s story was a real emotional one. From the beginning to the end I desperately wanted them to be together. They had this connection that goes back to childhood and I could really feel that connection coming from them the deeper I went into the story. Alex’s character in particularly was interesting for me, I don’t want to spoil the storyline but it was refreshing to read about a character like him.
Overall another really good read from this author and I am looking forward to the next book in the series!

Wish I Had A Nickel is the second book in The Sand Dollar Series by J.D Boudreaux. I recommend reading book one before starting on this one, because it will give you a better perspective of this story and the ‘feel’ for the series as a whole. There are also other relevant details contained in book one because there is a bigger picture being ‘painted’- so having all the information is important. I enjoyed this book more than the first and it was apparent that the author was more ‘comfortable/confident’ writing this book. I do like the characters, they are interesting and likeable. There is a little more to them than first meets the eye. The story spans many topics from friendship, love, family, expectations, second chances, fate, and more. The story is set to continue in book #3, The Broken Sand Dollar, which releases in February 2019.
I look forward to seeing where the story goes from here.
Thank You, J.D Boudreaux!
