As we grow and mature, when we are young we turn to the outside world to see the reflection of who we are. If we're not popular in the eyes of our high school's peers, we must be nothing. Our worth, before we reach adulthood, is firmly mired in what others think of us. So when Jen feels dejected that a more popular girl in school likes the same guy she does, all she can think is "Why would he pick me over her?" And boy, does that bring back some memories!
I won't give away the ending but this book has brought back a lot of my adolescent memories. Harboring a crush, feeling dejected because you're not popular or pretty enough, feeling powerless to change the world around you... But once Jen gains some more confidence in herself and her abilities, her person shines through the pages and makes you believe that we can achieve anything... as long as you stick to your guns.
Jen's story is probably all too familiar for many girls--you swoon over the campus hot guy, but like what Buddha said, what you desire is also desired by others. And things can get tricky if your rival happens to be the school's popular cheerleader--what, then, will you do?
`Wish Upon a Star' is indeed a story about a girl making a long shot at her own happiness, and the process of how she goes about it can leave you giggling, chuckling, shaking your head, and laughing your heart out in some places. Overall, it is a book that will entertain you long after you've finished reading the book. It can leave you basking in the afterglow of Jen's romance--and in my vocabulary, that can only be a great experience. Download a copy now--enjoyment guaranteed!
