Charlotte and her side kick Helen are flighty 20 somethings with no real goals and working dead end jobs. Not just one job ... but over the course of years they have gone job to job together and no end result.
Charlotte it seems has also started and not really finished many different vocational schools.
So, when this book ends ... I was a little disappointed. We go through the journey with Charlotte so I felt a little robbed with the Epilogue. I get it. Not all authors wrap it up in a big red bow but I wanted some idea of WHAT she decided to do with her life.
Her journey from meeting Adam to getting the cold shoulder to meeting Seth to discovering what was up with Adam to their short love affair to being a boat girl to a long boat journey to best friend's wedding to finding her way back to Seth again IS Lovely.
I didn't find myself truly emotional until I saw the writing on the wall and knew where her journey with Adam would take her, and them. I had some guesses when their night ended but I was correct.
The book is full of life discoveries and love and friendship and re-discovering that maybe your parents aren't so awful. That brother you thought hated you? Well, he might actually love you.
It is an awesome read and I seriously blasted right through it in almost a day.
The narrator is Charlotte/Charlie (1st person POV).
Charlotte is in her late 20s. She lives with her best friend Helen and works as a waitress at a diner.
I liked the beginning. Charlotte was an interesting character. But then she meets Adam (an artist). And honestly I didn't love him. I don't like insta-love and this part just really did not work for me.
Since I did not read the book blurb the book then took a completely unexpected turn for me. The book moves ahead 6 months. And I actually loved this turn of events.
At the halfway point in the book I was actually not sure what direction the author was going to go.
There were definitely many things that I was not expecting from this story. I did not realize that the story would be emotional. I did not realize that the book would feature a love triangle. And I did not realize that the book would be so gut-wrenching.
Charlotte's transformation was very interesting. I really liked the last part of the book. And I was okay with the directions the author took in the romance department. But the epilogue was just okay for me. I wanted more. Also the cover is really pretty. However I wish that a certain mural from the story had been on the cover.
A love story full of fate, heartbreak, finding yourself and life lessons.
When Charlotte bumps into Adam, an aspiring Artist, the 20 something waitress from the ma and pa diner certainly doesn't think she'd fall head over heels. After all Charlotte is kind of a mess, jumping from job to job, not seeming to hold anything down, especially a man. With encouragement from her roommate Helen, Charlotte decides to take a chance and has a one night stand with Adam, filled with beautiful paintings, Chinese food and champagne. It was amazing. But, when Adam rejects Charlotte the next morning she's hurt and confused.
As the months go by, Charlotte can't seem to forget Adam. She has to know why their night together turned so quickly. So, she sets out to find him. What Charlotte doesn't know is that, she and Adam's love story may have been fate, but it was written long before Charlotte and Adam met.
I've been thinking for days about how I would write my review, a review that wouldn't give away too many details of this story because I fully believe you should go into it with an open mind and know very little. I wouldn't say it has a love triangle, but one could view it as that way. Charlotte meets Adam and they spend an evening together, an amazing night like no other. It's almost perfect until it isn't. Charlotte doesn't understand what went wrong and even after months she just can't shake the thought of Adam, even after meeting the perfect guy.
Her family and friends don't understand her, but meeting Adam is something that truly changed her life especially when she goes looking for Adam and finds him.
This story is beautiful, tragic, and truly heart touching. I loved every bit of it and am so happy I read this book!
This was the first book for me by Renee Carlino but certainly won't be the last book!
I loved everything about this book. The story, the characters, the love, and the message. It evoked something in me, that I'm not sure a book ever has before. Adam, Charlie and Seth all touched something special in my heart. I loved the pain, the hurt, confusion, the letting go, and mainly the love forever. It makes you want to stop and appreciate every little thing, because in reality those are the big things. Thank you for writing this beautiful book, for these people and for the reminder.
I loved it :)
