But I will admit that my dislike of Morgan may be clouding my judgement. This author strongly favours tell instead of show. We are told constantly how amazing and powerful Morgan is, but she is mainly self-centered and stubborn. Much of what she is praised for was done by someone else. The main saving grace is that others occasionally acknowledge or note her flaws.
Which brings me back to my first point about the order of the stories in the collection. The first stories make Morgan seem impressive because of some past feat though unhelpful because of a current curse. Except, the second series gives the back story of her impressive past which uses deus ex machina...and others to save the day. Though Morgan gets the praise.
The last series goes forward in time where Morgan is once again selfish and useless. But we are told that for 10 years she has been better but stress has brought back the old Morgan. If only there was a series of stories showing the good Morgan!
That said, I missed many hours of sleep staying up reading "just one more chapter" because I enjoyed much of the rest of the story. I like Gwenlyn a lot - she saved the series for me. So I recommend the boxset, just as long as you don't keep waiting to see Morgan be the hero we are told she is.
One thing that confused me was how fast Gabriel and Noelle became very close, that seemed a bit off to me but I love the mysterious stories included everywhere around the book.
I've just finished this wonderful series. It's been a long time since I've read a story that I enjoyed this much. So much so, that I have to reread it again! It's back to book one where I will now double my pleasure. Thank you Alexandria Clark, for this series!
