"The Witch Watch" is set in an alternate England that satisfied the historical purist in me. Details from the royal family to the engineering of ocean liners made this world as real as the one I live in. But what fantasy would be complete without magic? And magic of the blackest sort, at that.
So what happens when a lackey sorcerer accidentally reanimates the wrong corpse in the midst of a dark globe-spanning plot? Who'll put the beast down first? The evil order that summoned him or Her Majesty's illustrious anti-magical squad, commonly known as 'The Witch Watch'? And just what does the lich in question have to say about the matter? Can a motley assortment of real good guys manage to come to terms in time to save jolly old England?
A novel hasn't grabbed me this forcefully since Jim Butcher's "Dresden Files" series. The pacing is simply perfect and within a few pages I simply NEEDED to know what happens next. I only wish that every book I spent money on rewarded me with this level of sophistication combined with such a good story.
Take a chance, you won't be disappointed.
You know most indy writers are indy for a reason, either niche market appeal or simply bad writing. For a few bucks though I figured it was worth a laugh, it's B movie night on my Kindle!
I could not have been more wrong, and I honestly feel I could not have spent that money more wisely. I read it front to back the day I got it, then I started to read it immediately again. I find it hard to believe that this is his first work of fiction, Shamus you need to keep this up.
Engaging characters, plausible plot, and meaningful story. I feel I should probably buy another copy, I think I might have ripped him off!
Excellent read and an amazing book, I strongly suggest everyone get a copy of The Witch Watch
While i so far have only red the first 4 chapters, atleast for me it's the greatest book in a long time.
If you like Terry Pratchett you will probably like this and i hope that there will be more of it comming from Mr. Young.
Do you like good writing, engaging characters, and well thought-out settings? Read this. You'll be glad you did. Then go read Shamus' blog, it's also fantastic.

This novel was something quite out of the ordinary. The leading character, a revived corpse with nothing to lose but a life he does not value, lives with abandon. Read morePublished on August 11, 2013 by Sharon Noullet
