Evan is a simple bartender. Coasting through life, content. When Seth steps into his world, Evan’s goes to hell. He is thrust into a reality that is deadly. Even thought the two men have begun a relationship, Evan still doesn't trust all that Seth says or does. Which leads to the horrific future that Seth told Evan was coming.
I've always been a fan of supernatural stories and this one didn't disappoint. I have to admit that being a little familiar with the hunting aspect (thanks to a certain popular television series) and the rituals, added to the enjoyment of this book. If you like your otherworldly stories with a bit of sexy times, you will enjoy this one.
I picked this one up off our available to review list and I’m glad I did. I used to be a huge fan of the television show Supernatural and this book reminded me of that series.
I was hooked from the first page, when Seth Tanner and his brother go off to camp at a location where a deadly train wreck happened over a hundred years previously and a supposed witch was hanged. It is reported to be a very haunted location, and let’s just say that proves to be true, and there are other forces at work as well.
Next the story skips ahead to the current day, and Seth is in Richmond searching for a killer. The killer is one of the disciples of the evil man who was hung in the tale in the beginning of the book, and the killer is now immortal through magic and human sacrifice. The next sacrifice is to be a man named Jackson Malone, and Seth needs to find him before he dies.
The writing was good. I see the author has published other books under another name, but I haven’t read those, nor was I familiar with her. I thought the pace of the story was good, but the instant love within just a few days seemed a little over the top. Not that it doesn’t happen, but with this story’s events, and running from death, and a lot of blood and near-death experiences, it seemed odd to me. That aside, I recommend the book to anyone who enjoys an urban fantasy meets ghosthunters type book. I really liked the ghost aspects of the story and will be interested in seeing where the author goes from here, since this is supposedly the start of a new series.
“Witchbane” by Morgan Brice is the first book in the ‘Darkwind’ series. Seth Tanner has a traumatic and tragic introduction to the paranormal world, prompting him to use his military skills to pursue ending a monstrous reign that has targeted a slew of unwitting victims. His fortuitous connection with Jackson Malone complicates his mission to protect the man who is oblivious of the danger and his significance in the struggle against evil, but they must become a team if either is going to survive long enough to make a difference.
This adult m/m urban fantasy story is a dark action-packed and erotic tale featuring two main characters who each has had to overcome a troubled past to reach this point in life. Those who are squeamish should be advised that this is a gritty story with a fair amount of violence, although much of it is off-stage. The descriptions are vivid and breath-stealing, so my advice would be to read this in the daylight if you tend to be a little jumpy, lol. There are a fair number of strings still dangling, as this is the beginning of the series, and I look forward to learning more about these charismatic guys, who are still a little two-dimensional to me but entertaining to read about. I have enjoyed this author’s alter-ego’s stories and I am delighted to have another series to read that is penned with her characteristic flair for exciting and captivating stories.
